You have had a number of warning signals  throughout your saga here that you discount and blow off quite easily. A couple of months and 200 emails doesn't really equate to much at the end of the day. How much telephone and/or Skype time have you shared?

Regardless of the comments here, nobody knows anything about this woman other than what you've shared. You have the upper hand on any knowledge of this specific woman over anyone here. General knowledge of your circumstances you don't have so much. We understand that you want to believe she is genuine and she may very well be but a few things are not adding up. Beware

Based on the info that you have shared, I'm with Faux Pas. If you think with the big head and keep the little head behind a zipper it won't take long for you to figure out whether it was a misunderstanding or a harbinger of things to come. I'd recommend that on this trip you also keep your wallet behind a zipper as well. A genuine woman who wants to be your wife will look for ways to save your money. Someone who doesn't care will look for ways to separate you from your money. Use common sens and don't be stingy but don't allow the little head to turn you into a sugar daddy. That equates to divorce material, not wife material.

Emails, calls and Skype are okay but they are useless when it comes to judging real chemistry and compatibility. No one has taken stats to my knowledge but I'd guess that half or more of the couples who meet discover that they have no real chemistry with the person they just met for the first time in real life even though hundreds of emails and Skype sessions seemed to be just peachy. You can read about some of those stories in the trip report section.

If things don't work out have a backup plan so that you have a place to stay and either contacts to meet other gals or to have a nice vacation in a fascinating part of the world that you will remember for years. You just don't want to be stuck--dependent on someone who has no interest in you after meeting or has blown you off because you're not a sugar daddy.

I'm sure that you are aware that the most common failure scenario is simply that one or both prospective partners decide(s) that the relationship doesn't suit, him/her/them.

Of course there are non scammers who speak no English!! Probably thousands!! Problem is Ukraine is very high up the scammer  ratings, about 15/20% of ukrainian women who register at these dating sites ARE scammers, I know! I delete them hour after hour!
It just makes life easier sticking to English speaking women, like it clears out a huge chunk of shit!!

results in Google alone.

As I see it a very clear indication that there is a extremely high probability that using any of the related services you will fall victim in one way or another. Maybe not!! But a high probability you will.

If you want to find yourself a Ukrainian women today , which I know for fact is 100% harder than 20 years ago!! you have to be hard as nails.
UNTIL you find that women you have to treat everyone along your path as a crook, expect everyone to try to rip you off , you need to keep your wits about you non stop, you need to not trust a soul, don't believe any thing do all your self and never rely on any other to do for you. Okay, I haven't actually used an interpreter save for at my wedding, and only one translator for email letters (despite that the lady spoke decent English, just wanted to make it easier for her to express herself in her native tongue).


Are you speaking about scams where the lady drags a translator around with the couple?  Or someone the man independently hires himself?  With the former, yeah, there is room for considerable manipulation, but with the latter, what would be the scams perpetrated?  I mean, the man does his research, discusses the situation with the potential independent service provider, decides whether his/her qualifications match his needs, negotiates the fee and they're off...   Aside from possible ineptitude, where's the scam?

The easy road would be going to a country where scamming isn't the national passtime, as it is in Ukraine. However, the OP has already made his arrangements so he'll just have to make the best of it. At least he will have a support staff at his disposal... unless the internet cafes scam him as well.

Jensen, technically speaking the taxi fare ($100) is a round trip fare.

Think about the trip from the driver's perspective however.

If he were simply to take your girlfriend from Zap to Dnipro to meet you, and then return to Zap by himself, would he charge $50?

He should. I was in Zap a few months ago and that was the going rate.

Once he's in Dnipro, he still has to come back to Zap, whether it's by himself or with a couple of passengers.

So if he can get paid extra money for his return trip (which he has to make anyway), that's extra cash above the $50 he would charge for a one way trip. He'd probably be happy with even $10 or $20 extra for the return trip.

The question is, where exactly is that extra $50 going?

One way to find out is to insist on paying the driver when you get to Zap.
If you give him $100 (800 Hrv) and get no change back, you'll know he got $100.

If you give him $100 and get change back you'll know something is fishy.
If your girlfriend stops you from paying and insists on paying herself, you'll also know something is fishy.

It is good advice about asking people-- do not be afraid to ask for help-- as you said many younger people have some English.
You are doing very well and make some excellent points.Perhaps it is more relevant once a "REAL" relationship is established and a guy is at the meeting family and friends stage.
The posts on this thread have mostly focussed on the reality of this girls intentions-so not yet at the stage you talk about so nicely.
