So I'm just starting out.
« on: November 26, 2013, 07:58:39 PM »
I kind of accidently wrote to a girl from Lugansk. Now over the years I've heard not so favorable things about this city. How will I know if  she is scamming me. She is 38 and is just as pretty as a speckled birddog puppy. Dark hair, nice smile, killing me. What if she is just as crazy as a sprayed roach? How will I know. I guess I need to Skype. I have 3 roundtrip tickets to just about anywhere that I really need to use. She says her English is good. I guess I'll know more later. Oh and she has the most perfect dimples. My question here to the professionals here is how soon should I get on a plane? Has there ever been a girl come from there that wasn't a scammer? So many questions. Who here can talk me through this?  I hear it's cold there this time of the year. If she's real I guess I'll go in Feb when it warms up some there.

Greg-

Just fast-forward the process and send her $800 bucks through Western Union, a passport, tickets for her mumski, and be done with it. Why bother with the headache that comes along with it?

You all know, as Lone Drake does, that Greg is looking for some amusement.

Just out of curiosity, LD, should he ask her if she is a teetotaler?  Being from Lugansk and all?

And perhaps you can advise him which is colder this time of year?  The arctic regions surrounding Bemidji or the roads leading into Lugansk?

Totally serious about this one guys.  I will know more in the next few days. A girl I've been talking to for 12 years from Saransk wished me happy birthday today. I know there are good women over there. I've got a good feeling about this one from Lugansk. Damn she's good looking.

Yes that does explain a lot. It explains that I've talked off and on to a girl and we have remained friends via the internet since my profile was published in some magazine from when I visited Estonia on vacation and wasn't looking to get married but merely trying to find someone to show me around town. So me and this lady have remained friends for 12 years. She is married and has a child as was I. I could've went to see here but I went to Kiev instead. You know ADE you really are an whiney little wuss. You cant seem to stay out of my threads for some reason. Don't you have diapers to change?  I mean how hard is it for you to just stay out of any thread I start? I guess you're still hurt because I thought you were a woman the past year or so. Get over it son. It was a mistake on my part and I have since apologized profusely.

If you're serious, my opinion is, bad idea at this particular time.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Luhans'k (Ukrainian transliteration...it is in Ukraine, after all, even though 98% of the town's residents speak Russian as their first language) is perfectly fine. My fiancee lives there; she believes that the MOB business there is just about finished. It was in its heyday years ago. Very few WM's are in evidence there now. I have met one member from this forum there personally, about a year and a half ago. He has since married the very pleasantly attractive and personable lady whom he had met there. I would have been married by now except for having to liquidate some property in Colorado. My fiancee is the antithesis of a green card girl. When we got together, a year and a half and nine trips ago, she was only willing to begin a relationship if I was willing to move to Luhans'k to live with my partner. She is 39, I believe that is the same age as my forum friend's new wife.

If you have a good digital, including Skype, relationship, go sooner rather than later. If you can, New Years is an especially meaningful holiday to get together. Sure, it's cold, but it will be cold in February also. If you don't have them invest in good waterproof insulated (Thinsulate or equivalent) boots and gloves and a down 3/4 length or heavy wool coat. The center of the town is relatively compact and very walkable. If you rent an apartment make sure it's in the "centre". There's a lot to do in town with a partner, but it's definitely not a tourist town if you're trying to amuse yourself alone, unless you're really fond of the 'Soviet' feeling of the town. At holiday time it's really decorated, especially in the square in front of the city hall...more decorated and lit than most American towns. If you do go for the holidays, I will be there from about 30 Dec until 11 Jan. We can PM each other if you wish to get together. My fiancee is an excellent judge of character and a fluent English speaker if you need any more particular local advice than I am capable of giving.

Good luck, whatever you decide, Greg.

Greg, get her on skype and the phone.

Talk to her every day. Scammers won't spend the time, because they
are playing a numbers game where they have to send out a hundred
letters to get one guy to bite.

The common in country prodater scams are easily avoided
1. taxi scam, arrange your own transportation and you won't be scammed
2. the cafe kickback, arrange the first meeting in a cafe for coffee or tea
3. the translator scam, arrange this yourself if it's needed.
4. the shopping scam, if she asks you to buy her a fur coat then you
know enough how to avoid that.

Lugansk was famous for letter writing scams years ago. However you
know enough how to not send money for Momma's operation etc.

I am assuming you are thinking WOVO here if she is on the phone and
skype with you every day then you only have to worry about if you meet
and there isn't any chemistry.

Udachi !

Is that the same as when guys say they, "accidentally fell and their penis went in"? I'm curious because, damn me, but I've never managed to figure out how that can happen.

Are you the same Greg that just went thru a nasty divorce? If so, seeing that you blamed the divorce on the lady, including charges of adultery while you were being "just friends" with another lady strikes me as disingenious.

Mendy, I think you need more sleep.  His married friend of 12 years is NOT the lady from Lu'hansk.

Yeah, one is an "accidental friend" and the other is a "long term friend"  <nudge, nudge, wink, wink>

Surprising that a guy can find the time to chat with a foreign woman for 12 years while he was married but not manage to teach his 2 kids English.
