People routinely decry that the Orange Revolution accomplished noting.  But the interview with ex-party of Regions MP Inna Bohoslovska demonstrates that the Orange Revolution did accomplish one thing and surprisingly that one accomplishment belongs to Kuchma.  This revolution is three times as bloody as the one that decided his successor.   Inna Bohoslovska  bragged about the lack of bloodshed and the Regions electoral mandate her party garnered.

Now if Klitchko is the next President, he and his opposition will have to deal with this same opposition that has become a RT punchline and he will have to do so without the broad base of support Timoshenko has and in her shadow as she will be free and will likely be in government

The good thing about Klitchko as president is that he can fight the opposition without militia.

As protests rage in the Ukrainian capital and other cities, three of the country's former presidents have given their support to the demonstrators and warned the tensions could be spinning into an uncontainable crisis.
Separately, the head of the Council of Europe, the continent's main human rights body, met with government officials and opposition members to try to persuade them to enter into dialogue, but said many in Ukraine are resistant to compromise.
The head of Ukraine's police ordered his officers not to use force against peaceful demonstrators, a statement indicating that officials are aware of how the club-swinging dispersal of protesters this week galvanised already strong anger over the president's shelving of a long-awaited pact with the European Union

From today's Mendeleyev Journal:

Many questioned the wisdom of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich's trip to Bejing at a time when his country was literally imploding but the scrappy political fighter may have pulled a rabbit out of the hat, and a Chinese rabbit at that.

In deals signed today China will begin investing in Ukraine, pledging at least eight Billion in USD for the beleaguered nation.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of China Xi Jinping sign agreements in Bejing. height=229
President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych (l) and President of China Xi Jinping (r) sign agreements in Bejing.

President Yanukovych said that President Xi Jinping will plan a visit to Ukraine to monitor the progress of the joint investment projects. “Certainly, we will prepare for this visit. We will creat a special program and a joint report of the Intergovernmental Commission that will monitor the implementation of these projects,” said Mr. Yanukovich.

The bulk of the initial projects are to be concentrated on Ukraine's infrastructure with construction of power plants, modernization of Ukrainian mines, joint manufacturing of cars, construction of modern elevators and establishment of modern telecommunication networks.

President Yanukovich also met with the Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, Zhang Dejiang, who thanked Mr. Yanukovych for working to maintain Ukrainian-Chinese ties. Mr. Yanukovich has also met with the Chinese Vice Premier, Ma Kia.

While in Bejing Mr. Yanukovich attended the opening of an Internet radio station which will broadcast in the Ukrainian language across China. Media and Internet are tightly controlled in China but officials were quick to say that Ukrainian is the 50th language to be approved for broadcast in China.

Things remain tense while Mr. Yanukovich is away and today violent street protests with equally violent police responses continued across Ukraine and especially in the capital of Kyiv (Kiev).

A key question remains of when the money will begin to arrive. Mr. Yanukovich is pushing for sooner rather than later.

Hmmmm,

Talk about staging:

1.  Reject EU trade agreement
2.  Travel to China to pick up new investment package
3.  Travel to Russia to get endorsement by Putin

Set up ahead of time?  You bet!

Lenin statue toppled in Ukraine protest
Kiev, Ukraine (CNN) -- Protesters knocked down a statue of Vladimir Lenin on Sunday as outrage mounted over the Ukrainian government's push for closer ties with Russia.
A crowd of cheering protesters chanted "Good job" after the statue fell in Kiev's Bessarabska Square.

Which country are you talking about?  Of course I'm not across every news service in the world 24 hours a day, but I can't recall any country's President declaring themselves to be gay.  I'm also struggling to recall any President supporting Yanukovich, but I'm sure that you'll enlighten me in your usual fashion.

Thanks brother.  This historian validated what Boethius articulated earlier on a separate thread - that Kuchma had a better record than Yushenko and Golidlocks.

How many people are protesting in Odessa, Kharkiv, Sevestopol, and Donetsk?  I have found hardly anyone.
If people are really upset in Ukraine, you would see millions of people protesting outside Kiev.

I wonder if the statue of Lenin that got toppled was the one below my apartment on a divided side street near Maiden.  Are/were there more than one in the area of Maiden?

It's becoming clear Yanukovich never wanted to do business with the EU. He just wanted to string the EU along, wasting their time, to force a better deal with the EU's competition, Russia and China.

There is a statue of Lenin on Boulevard Shevchenko, fairly close to the Besarabsky Market.  That is the one pulled down.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

The protests are all over Ukraine not just in Kiev and not all originating in the West.  If you watch the video UT, the historian states that the East had dissenting parties before Regions swallowed them up in their coalition - effectively silencing them.  This a generational issue much like the Vietnam war was.

They drive to Kyiv. (I know this for a fact) Ever heard strength in numbers?

Besides, the cities you mentioned are all governed by thugs and goons. It can get really messy.
