Military belt or backpack, selection of military pins and badges, soviet/russian military vehicles models, something related to upcoming Olympics (from mum of 10yo who also into video games)
Great suggestions!

Tell that she has to bring enough to share with everyone!  I want some cool Russian military stuff too.

He doesn't like chocolate anyway (he's odd!).  Alina doesn't really know much about him at all, mostly because there isn't much to say.  He isn't "into" anything except video games at the moment.  It annoys me somewhat actually, I wish I would have never gotten him a PS3.  She said she could get him a game for it, but to be honest I really don't want him to have any more games.  She's from St. Pete so I thought a bridge related souvenir would be cool, but when I was there they were all really lame and nothing he would like.  Maybe a ship in a bottle, although that would be a pain for her to travel with.

I'm so excited for you jmana! Really I am....

As for your Q, based on a previous advice, you should maybe take the time to find out if any of the Russian/Ukrainian folks living close to you have children the boy's age. That should be a huge comfort for boys his age to have around.

Have you done this yet?

No, there aren't any Russian people that I know of living close by, but then again it seems as if Russians tend to keep to themselves in our area.  The few Russian people I have met seemed to live almost a hermit lifestyle and didn't want to be bothered.

She can do a search for women in the area on vk.com when she arrives. That seemed to work best for my wife.

Take the boy to a local gun range or an acquaintance's farm. If possible have instructional class on firearm safety and how to handle them. These are widely offered for beginners. After class setup some target shooting with a BB gun or 22 rifle. You will be his hero forever.

I think there's some confusion, the boy is mine ;D   She has a daughter, although she might like shooting a BB gun too ::)

Good idea, I did a search from my VK and there were about 40 women in the Raleigh area, mostly looked to be about her age too.  Some didn't seem all that "Russian" though.  Of course I have an account there and I'm 0% Russian, LOL!

They're everywhere jmana. Someone mentioned 'Raleigh/NC', so I'm not sure if that's where you're at...if so,
