Hello from North Carolina
« on: January 08, 2014, 02:20:28 PM »
Hello everyone! I am so glad I found this forum. I just moved to Charlotte, NC and I am looking to find friends here. Please message me if you are interested.

Can anyone advise me on how to renew in America my Russian passport for foreign travel. Any suggestions? I would appreciate if you can point me in the right direction.

Thank you!!
 :)

Hi Imoss and  :welcome:

Where in Russia are you from?

Welcome to RWD Imoss!

I understand renewing your passport can be done while in the U.S. but, it isn't neither easy or cheap and IIRC, must be done in person at only one of two Russian embassies. We had this dilemma with my wife's renewal and decided to just make a trip of it to Russia. Yes, that cost a bit more but she got a visit out of it as well

 :welcome:  IMoss

North Carolina is a fine state, especially the Queen City Charlotte where I went to high school. The city was also known as the "Hornet's Nest of Rebellion" when we were fighting the British Army for independence in 1780.

Regarding your passport, if you have a Russian passport and it is expiring, you must go in person to a Russian consulate based on my understanding one year ago.  Washington DC is your nearest consulate.  You can call them and determine the exact steps.   Their telephone number is (202) 939-8912.

DC is an interesting place to visit with many museums and sights.

I do not know what you have to do to retain the visa issued by the United States and placed in your passport.

You can use www.russianpassportservice.org
It is a little more expensive so maybe you can drive up to Embassy in Washington. But check with them. It might require two visits.

Even though I know where their office is my wife happened to be going back so she did it in Russia.
