My dear friend:  I am no gentleman.  I am a realist.  If anything I say or do can prevent bloodshed on either side, I will say and do it.  I said the same thing to the people who were clamoring for Tymoshenko's release.

I do not fathom war.  I cannot stand by when people decide to start shooting at each other.  And those egging them on should be brought out for who they are.

These are life and death decisions.   This lady has not shown an ounce of intelligence in how she presents herself.  So, yes.  Go ahead.  Castigate me for not being polite.  She can fall on the sword.  What she says offends me because I stand for innocent lives.  I have many friends that live in areas that could be front lines of combat in the near future.   They mean much more to me than this unfortunate drivel spewed by a lady who will be safe in a bastion of Russian support where other cities that are not so fortunate will take the brunt of her opinions.

I understand that these are life and death decisions and I can't imagine anyone on this forum wanting war or people get hurt. But as an American I reckon you do have and understanding of and symphaty for the need for self defence or better yet, protection, so that it doens't have to come to that. As I view it, that's what is of utmost importance to the Russians in Krim. The criminals in Kiev have already started preparations to outlaw the Russian language! That's like trying to destroy a people's identity and the Russians surely feel that will not be the end of the oppressions should they get their way.

To each their own.  I find no one who advocates war in any form to be demonstrating intelligence.

In my area of the United States, we are constantly subjugated by the different ethnic populations who live here.  If the use of language is your singular call to war, then it is on you, too.

Everything I have heard coming from the extremists on either side show that there is no coming together.  "Oh, did you hear!!!!  They are OUTLAWING THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE!!!!"  Give me a break.  You better have something better than that before the bombs fall.

Now, I will happily take on any criticism you want to make of my country.  It is, after all, simply a country.   I have stated this before, and I will state this again.  The Russians can control the situation without the confrontation.  They have it within themselves to do so.  But to do so would take wisdom.  Which is something that no one seems to be able to produce lately.

You have a valid point there but as you mentioned earlier, Ukrainians, including those in his party, think Yanukovych is politically dead. Not many people want to associate with him or even vote in his favor. Putin only accepts Yanukovych out of Russia's interest. Putin also wants a return on the billions he gave Yanukovych.

They need to be protected while the situation is sorted out.

Have no fear! Large armies are coming to protect people. I don't think things will be sorted out as well as you like though.
