U've missed keyword - Russian  :P
Don't worry about my relatives, they moved to Far East 130 years ago.

No, I didn't miss the key word - I just didn't know that your family had moved so long ago.

After all shit I've read here I'll try to avoid mentally unstable posters no matter where.

And I thought you wrote earlier in this thread that your English was bad?  :D

I mean emotional occupation for people leaving here. Nobody asked us when 23 years ago we became part of Ukraine and nothing changed during this period, we didn't become Ukrainians.

Crimea became part of Ukraine 60 years ago, not 23 years ago, although it probably didn't matter to most until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.  That means that probably 95%+ of those born in Crimea (and alive today) have always been Ukrainian by birth, if not necessarily by ancestry.

Yes, but as we all were part of Soviet Union we didn't have any Ukrainization here.We didn't learn ukrainian language at school and were never prohibited to study in russian.Everything changed exactly 23 yearsd ago.

Russian speaking Crimean residents, who say they have never been persecuted just for being Russian, and who want to remain part of Ukraine?
They have always been in minority, and they are now even less after this. This is the post of the new Dnepropetrovsk head.Pay attention to the last lines of it. He says"No extrimist speeches for now!We should give to these scums any promises, guarantees and freedoms now.(meaning to us, people in Crimea). We will hang them later." this post made many people from this minority sober.

My wife is Russian (western Siberia).   She has a Cossack father so she naturally feels akin with Ukraine.   In fact she has empathy for Ukrainians, remembering in Soviet days they were not impoverished.

She does not like Putin because he does not care about the ordinary Russian.    To her Crimea is just another chapter in Russia's long history of turmoil.

Paranoia is contagious. I made this conclusion on the hysterical posts of Ukrainian wives husbands here and at RUA.

I would not blame husbunds  :) It's hard to keep sober mind under FSUW pressure.     Hysteria in Ukraine is hot, really hot. One man in my company has a sister in Ukraine. When he called her he heard flow of insulting because he is guilty of all Putin's sins, according to his sister. So he just broke the phone call to save mind.
It does not feel like national revival, not at all.

IMO this is a short term gain, but a long term loss.

Putin's policies are isolating Russia in a world that is becoming more interconnected.   I would want to be part of the large global connected economy rather than a commodity-oriented smaller economy.   Especially if the demand for my commodity declines.

If Ukraine can align itself with Europe and rid itself of corruption (yes, a big "IF"), Ukraine will  do well.

Definitely, hysteria is rampant in Ukraine.

My MIL was talking to her brother who lives in Omsk. She was explaining to him what was happening in Kharkiv and he told her she was being hystrerical. That nothing like that has happened. After all, he sees on television all the events and there is nothing going on like she describes. Even her black eye is a figmnent of her imagination. She just banged herself against the door one night.

Just plain hysteria.

For the record, I told my wife more than ten years ago this was going to happen. I know it was more than ten years because the Orange Revolution had not happened yet. She thought I was referring to the Orange Revolution.

My inlaws would relish laughing at my theories. "We are peaceful people" they would say.

Well, it happened and now the peaceful people are understanding what that peacefulness got them.

My MIL got assaulted by some titushki and luckly some other babushkas interceded. If not, hospital time for her. What a man!!!

Truckloads of skinheads from Belogrod are stopped at the border everyday and sent back. Who knows how many of them just squeeze through the borders.

Yep, nothing but hysteria.

Is Russia going to offer citizenship to everyone who wants it in Crimea, or are they going to pick and chose? What about the Tatars? What will happen if someone wants to retain Ukrainian citizenship?

What will happen with land ownership? It seems to me with my travels in Crimea that a large percentage of land is either public or government owned. For example, there is a large strip of undeveloped coast North of Sevastopol that seems to be public land.

Now, will ownership of all land that is not privately owned be handed over to Russia?

There is a vineyard that stretches for miles that is owned by Actor, Gerard Depardieu that is just outside of Sevastopol. Will he lose it?

A lot of people from various countries own land in Crimea. Like, a lot of Germans. Ukraine has visa free entry to a lot of countries. Everything will change!

Has anyone here married a wealthy or middle class Russian women in the last few years??

Im just wondering as maybe they would have a different view on Putins Russia? Much comes down to class. If you married a Russian women 15/20 years ago who was say not middle class she would have her views set on Russia for a long time! And so would her family and friends? One of my good Russian friends father was a high up general in the Soviet days, still has his communist card. He hates Putin and so do all his family, many times I have sat with him at dinner and listened to his story. But it is a different story for many young Russians today.

So Russia has a fast rising middle class especially in the large cities, has anyone here married such a Russian over the last 2/3/5 years?

If so I can bet they have a totally different view of living in Putins Russia and probably a very different view on the politics side of things.

Of course every Russian knows about corruption but many really do not care about it. Especially if life is not so bad.

Yep, in 20 years probably. Not everyone wants and is ready to wait so long, some (most?) want to live today.

Back on what I was saying earlier, since I have been in this forum I have not heard one good word about Putin. Im not speaking about the corruption side of things, I am speaking about what he has done for the Russian people over the last 15 years on standard of living ect.

Not one person in this forum has ever had a good thing to say on that side of things! I never checked all the threads.

So back to what I was saying earlier and I am speaking about Russia not Ukraine as that is a totally different story. I would presume most people have their ideas about Putins Russia from their other half, unless they have spent time in Russia how would they know about life in Russia??
Which would probably mean those people married a Russian women from years back when times were very different, just like my friends father who was a general in the Soviet days, he thinks Putin has ruined the country and has not a good word for him. He had an easy life in the Soviet days, unfortunately not so today. Or a Russian women from a not so well off family who decided the only way to make a better life would be to marry a foreigner ?

In which case her husband will have very negative views of life in Putins Russia?

That is why I ask has anyone married a middle class Russian women or a young Russian women from the city recently??

If so I think it would be a totally different story and a different political view. And Probably as the % of Russian women who want to marry a foreign guy is actually very very small, and usually these women are looking for a better life, will explain why this forum is so one sided about Putin.

Again Im not speaking about corruption I am speaking about life in general for many Russians especially in the cities.

Just saying 8)

Carlos, life is not just black and white. Putin is not a God's gift for Russia. But we had leaders who were much worse than he is. After all, he is our President, not yours.

20 years is a reasonable estimate.  One generation - not long in world history.

If you like him so much, why don't you marry him?

That would depend on how much he would pay me 8) My point is this forum is 100% biased against Putin on every issue.

And the reason for that is most men have married a women who was or has been desperate to leave Russia to improve her quality of life, and the only way she could do that has usually been to marry a foreign man.
Hense the majority of men on this forum only have bad words to say about Putin. They have never lived in Putins Russia and just heard hearsay or watched the Western Biased media.

The funny thing is speaking to many guys even from the US who live in Russia will not put Putin down as much as the members of this forum.
In fact many will say completely the opposite! And again I am not speaking about the corruption side of things, I am speaking about life in general for many Russians especially the younger generation.

But it seems most in this forum is oblivious to these facts .
