I was reading a blog about Ukranian woman and I came across and interesting
article about the "closed book" mentality of the people in this country.
Here is an interesting excerpt:
"The reality is that all people in Ukraine must constantly discern who is trying to take from them, and who is not. This culture is harsh and there is a lot of deceit. So, the percentage of people in Ukraine who are closed is much higher than in the United States where I grew up.
As a result, a large percentage develop behavior patterns that are those of a closed book, never allowing someone to truly get inside their little circle.
Sure, if you live in the same neighborhood, work at the same place, are a friend of their family already, they will let you in. In fact, many I would consider open the moment that you actually get into their community.
But, you are a foreigner coming over here, trying to convince her to leave her mother, family, and everything she is comfortable with to be with you and you are only staying here for a couple of weeks before going back to your cushy life.
Besides that, most of you couldn’t really attract a winner in your home country, and you are going to both attract and keep this girl from leaving you? That’s a joke, and that’s why..."
