Actually it is a better chosen word. Putin makes his countrymen proud. Obama weakens his countrymen with his gay agenda, gun grabbing, bitter clingers with their guns and Bibles comment. After Obama many men in America are going to need years of therapy to get their masculinity back.

I can see why many people become upset with LT.  I don't have the time to read all of LT's posts, yet those I read do not bother me, even the absurd ones.   

Some might say I am biased because of our mutual dislike of Obama, fellow vets, etc.  I say that I do not know LT well enough to understand him.    I imagine there is much below the surface, well beyond what I see here.   And I don't want to go there.  My life has enough complications without adding another.

Putin is no idiot.  He is enamored with himself.  And he likes to posture himself as invincible.  He enjoyed the press he got about Crimea and east Ukraine as it makes him look like a world "mover and shaker."  He did not care if many in the world compare him with Hitler. 

For sure Putin contributed to the east Ukraine separatist issue.  Yet that issue would have surfaced without Putin's encouragement.  Many there are very upset by the ouster of the elected President and the ineptitude of Ukrainian government throughout the 20+ years of independence.  They saw what happened in Crimea and wanted the same.

This idea that Putin is making all the right moves in clear eyed calculation has holes in it.  His reaction to Yanukovych's ouster has been all emotion and all improv.  It has given him temporary gains impossible under Bush-Clinton, but long term problems, namely Crimea, an economy bleeding foreign investment, diplomatic alienation in the West and seeking new awkward sleeping arrangements in the East.

Maybe Putin did all of this so that Europe (and the US) would loan money to Ukraine needed to pay the debt it owes to Russia.  Russia was never going to see any money from Ukraine, and the debt would have grown.  And now the Ukrainian debt grows larger as Russia raises the price for gas.
