Hi Doug,

Well IMO today's world is more interconnected, especially from an economic standpoint.
Political differences between more developed countries is no longer played out on the physical battlefield.
It will be accomplished by economic/political pressures.

What Putin is trying is "old school" soviet style. I just don't think it will work out for him in the longer term, as Russia (just like the rest of the world) are totally dependent on the rest of the world.

Patience is our friend here.

I hope your right but recent history does not seem to support that notion.

If its true that the Allies never would have won the war without Uncle Joe why did so many of his own soldiers defect to Nazism?

... then we have to think about a nuclear first strike.

Absolute insanity, LT. Let's be a little more circumspect about proposing global thermonuclear holocaust, simply because we agree that Russia's leaders and sheeple have checked out of the universe of rational thought.

Fine.  Can you assure me that the Kremlin will not use nuclear weapons or engage in nuclear blackmail?  Who put the words radioactive dust on Kiselov's teleprompter?

You're right.  Insane I tell ya!

MAD worked in the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. Let's trust that it will continue to work for the next few years, until Russia chooses to rejoin that part of the global community that operates sanely under the rule of law and respect for treaties. In the meantime, we should expand and enhance our Spec Warfare capabilities.

You cannot assure me because you yourself don't know or more likely fear I am right.  That the President of Russia is blackmailing Obama and Merkel would explain the Kissinger embassy.  But what do I know?  I am insane.  It was probably me who wrote Kiselov's talking points.

Real smart!

You are so right. I do not KNOW the future. As I sit in my Lviv flat, I cannot predict where I will go to lunch in two hours. But...I do not propose the certain destruction of the world as the solution to my uncertainty about the future.

Its too bad you aren't sitting in your Luhansk apartment.  Of course, that's probably my fault too.  First suggesting to Kiselov then this bit about nuclear annihilation.  No one likes to mention it, but isn't that the consequence of vacating the Budapest  memorandum is nuclear war.  No wonder we after the fact, deny the security guarantees we made.  Why do the Russians still war game assuming nuclear strikes?  Would the alliance survive if Moscow nuked Warsaw?  Think where oil prices would be. I wouldn't expect you to think about such things with lunch pending.  Better to leave such insanity to other souls.

"I wouldn't expect you to think about such things with lunch pending.  Better to leave such insanity to other souls.". Man, LT, I thought we had, basically, mutually agreeable thoughts about the Ukrainian-Russian War. Now, however, you are being an insulting a$$.

My Ukrainian fiancee is watching over my shoulder as I type. She says you and I are making God laugh with our differing outlooks on the future. She says, in essence, we each need to take a chill pill. By the way, she's recognized by the Ukrainian government as an "officially displaced person", so neither of us is likely to be found in a Luhansk apartment anytime soon.

Please drop me PM if it'll be done before Feb. 3. If not then I'll have to settle for Pancho Villa at home.

All you have done is make fun of me and question the proportionality of the response.  But the facts and conclusions are in tact.

"...make fun of" you? You are extremely hyper-sensitive. Proportionality does not dictate thermonuclear holocaust as the next step in a regional conflict/war. I detest Putin. My fiancee and I live 800 miles from her home because of him, but living in Lviv is a lot better than dying in a Ukraine turned into a churning, burning, melting post-nuclear attack cauldron.

I have laid out several plausible scenarios one of which is probably happening right now.  Do you rebute them?  No.  Your response to nuclear blackmail is that it doesn't necessitate first strike.  Can you tell us what does necessitate a first strike?

When I call you out on your name calling, what do you do?  More name calling . . .

Lol

Have fun at lunch
