Let's not despair yet.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-weapons-to-ukraine-could-take-months-officials-say-1423693717?KEYWORDS=us+weapons+could+take+months

Yeah, I know. Still a most disheartening chain of events though.

Canada is also moving ahead with advanced non-lethal aid regardless of this so called peace agreement as well...

Ottawa plans to provide valuable satellite images to Ukrainian forces

..."Ottawa plans to help Ukraine’s beleaguered armed forces by providing them with high-resolution images from Canada’s powerful RADARSAT-2 satellite, CTV News has learned.

Twice a day, the satellite will cross over Ukraine, providing precise details on what is happening on the ground -- day or night.  That will allow the Ukrainians to redeploy their troops and use them more strategically against Russian-backed separatists.

The satellite is “really good at detecting military hardware,” Retired Col. Andre Dupuis of Space Strategies Consulting told CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife"...

The obvious disconnect in this aid is that knowing where the hammer's about to fall and being able to do anything about it are two separate issues.

Our new defense minister is no slouch, he'll do what he can. I suspect that's why he was shuffled into the portfolio. Nicholson was competent but lacked imagination. Kenney will look at any and all means of assisting Ukraine within the bounds of complying with the PMO's directives.

You are mistaken. Doll wasn't so much complaining about lack of freedoms.  She was commenting on how twisted out of shape people here get when they read a dissenting voice, which does not make the poster a "a paid Russian troll" although I'm wondering if they lost my address and banking acct number.  :)

Sadly Minsk round two is just a charade.  Why else would more Russian tanks and rockets have passed into Ukraine while they were allegedly making a peace deal?  Just a stall tactic by Putin, nothing more.

If indeed that is the case, why would Germany and France go along with it?

1) Germany just doesn't want/need a war at its border.
2) Germany NEEDS to sell their shit and Europe is NOT buying that much.
3) Germany would rather use their money to subdue monetarily the rest of Europe rather than spend it in useless things like an army.
4) France wants their billions for the Mistral
5) France is still bending over, as in BOHICA, to Germany.

Because they orchestrated it. I refer you back to my original question:

Why was Merkel content to sit in Munich doing nothing until the very day the POTUS made known he was seriously considering sending lethal aid to Ukraine, Then all of a sudden the frumpy frau's out the door doing her Neville Chamberlain impression faster than a pi$$ed off RW txting her mother running interference for Putin?

If you figure that one out let me know. Because from where I stand it was diplomatic sabotage pure and simple.

4) France wants their billions for the Mistral

Russian media in link below says they may receive the ships as early as next week. Probably why Hollande was smiling the most during the peace talks. This ceasefire may hold for some weeks if each of the countries  involved have interests in completing objectives. If France does send those ships to Russia, it would basically mean the West has armed Russia more than Ukraine.

Hollande "I'm against arming Ukraine because it'll make Russia escalate so I'll arm Russia because doing the opposite will make Russia de-escalate. Duh"
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Those ships would have implications beyond Ukraine.  They enhance their ability to project power beyond the Black Sea and into the Mediterranean.  But someone on the pro-Ukrainian side will  cheer lead for Merkel and her supporters.

If and WHEN this deal falls apart, will the German people hold the Russian speaking German chancellor accountable?  NSA should release her phone records.  Maybe Huilo is on speed dial.

If indeed Germany and France are representing the EU and they are doing things to get us to pipe down and stay out, then maybe we should do I as they want.  It is on the continent they reside on, it is their neighbor.  They probably have the more to lose if/when the bombs start flying.  If you read what many of the voices of Europe are saying, it is often for us to stay out....(Shadow and The Natural) come to mind.

Is it possible that Europe doesn't want US intervention as it will result in a less desirable outcome?   I can see why Obama is hesitant to do too much because it doesn't seem like he has important European support, among other things.

Interesting if true.  If those warships get delivered it will be very, very telling.

You see? That's the whole problem.

The Europeans did it in 1916 and 1940.

To all this time the USA was neutral and felt it was their problem.

We have a strange situation in Germany.  Gerhard Schroeder's successor (FM Steinmeier) is more hawkish on Russia than Schroeder's rival (Merkel).

McCAIN ON RUSSIA-UKRAINE CEASEFIRE
« Reply #43 on: February 13, 2015, 01:52:53 AM »
Keep pushing JMc-- keep on going!!  Ukraine needs your help.

STATEMENT BY SENATOR JOHN McCAIN ON RUSSIA-UKRAINE CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT

“Some will use this deal as excuse to delay sending defensive lethal assistance to Ukraine. But as long as Vladimir Putin negotiates peace while sending in tanks, that need still exists. As a wide range of national security experts and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have concluded, providing defensive lethal assistance to Ukraine is not inconsistent with the search for a political solution, it is an essential component to achieving it. Nothing about this deal has changed that.”

Politics is a zero sum game Jay.  You have to take power from someone else.  That is why it is OK to criticize Obama, Merkel, Hollands and Cameron for abandoning Ukraine when McCain was saying long before you were singing his praises we need to arm Ukraine.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten
