Here is one of the comments, so I am quoting to save my energy

Putin's Way sure smelled a lot like western propaganda. Much of it smacked of conspiracy theories, weak circumstantial evidence, hearsay, and the use of dissidents, who may have an ax to grind, to support western arguments. One could easily look at the JFK assassination and construct similar, "factual" arguments to prove that it was not what the record states or the Bush/Gore election that looked to the rest of the world as a rigged election similar to what Putin is accused. This program made Putin appear monstrous, and the ending, with the cornering of a rat analogy, is pure fear mongering. I happened to have watched Putin's three hour press conference last December and if this is the same man portrayed in your "documentary", then either he is a great actor who has duped his nation or the filmmakers need to be objective in their investigation reporting. There are always two sides to every story and both sides are layered with complexity and color. This program offered one side, one layer, one color.

The test should be how dissidents are treated within the country.  If Russian journalists do not feel safe examining Putin's finances, or criticizing him, then that is all the proof you need.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

BTW. did you hear what the women said at the very beginning of the vide? When he (Putin) is in the corner that's when he is dangerous.

I would add that it is about Russia as a nation.

This is not proof.
It is just your own syllogism.

A free press, and the right to criticize leaders is the lifeblood of a free society.  Without it, a society is not free.

The video is not about "free society" but about Vova the Monster.
I haven't seen any solid proof of his "crimes" in the video.

I've lived in Moscow for the past 11 years. I've witnessed much of what's presented in the programme, and I've also witnessed what's been left out of the programme. The issue with the programme is that there is no context provided, and facts are grossly distorted. First things first. It's true that there is an issue with corruption in Russia, and there are some human rights abuses. But to put this into context, corruption still exists widely in the West. The US banking sector alone has been fined well over $25 Bln since 2009 for illicit lending practices. In the US, basic civil rights weren't written into law for nearly 200 years. I could go on and on, but back to Russia and the Putin expose. 1) the filmmakers interviewed a handful of self-admittedly corrupt mini-garchs, who've allegedly been forced to flee the country. No exploration into the backgrounds of these people, potential criminal corruption that they themselves were engaged in, nothing. The programme simply found a few people willing to spin the same, tired corruption story, and they fed them questions they knew would generate the answers they wanted. It would be similar to interviewing Ken Lay, Michael Milken and Dominique Strauss Kahn and indicting

Irrelevant to the quote you pulled.

BTW, Putin was Sobchak's protege.

My response was to the Randel Cole comment you posted.  And yes, it was relevant to that post.

Sleepycat,

I love Russia.  Always have.  If you have ever been taken into a Russian home and treated as one of the family, you'd know exactly what I mean.  I am greatly saddened by the current turn of events, but nothing will ever trump the love that I have for the Russian people.

Doll-are you familiar with the expression"shooting yourself in the foot"?

That is the corner Russia is creating for itself-- no way out and both feet in the firing line-- fire and you will blow both feet off!!
What you can bet on-it will be ordinary Russians who do the suffering for Putin & Kremlin oligarch cronies- who of course-- will not be putting themselves in the firing line.

I call BS on this one.  Russia is a second rate power.

At the rate Russia's economy is going down the gutter, soon even aiming to be a second rate power may be a bit too optimistic...

Doll, did anybody present evidence to you about those Oligarchs who didn't pay taxes and had their business confiscated or did you simply trust Putin? What if you learned Putin is much more a crook than those Oligarchs? Would you be angry at him or would you shrug it off and think he earned every penny for bringing Russia to where it is today? I'm curious about your thoughts because I sense your thoughts are the same as most Russians.

The UN seat is an historic mistake.  Lots of countries have nukes, or the power to make them.  It doesn't make them superpowers.

That's correct. However much many here try to make this all about Putin, what he does, is for Russia. In a word, one might even call him a populist politician. How can it not be about Russia when he has a 85% approval rating. No western leader come close to that number.

I call BS on this one.  Russia is a second rate power.

Second rate compared to the US, yes. But if Washington takes the conflict in Russia's backyard, they will lose. Remember Vietnam, Afganistan etc.

The UN seat is an historic mistake.

You want freedom of speech in Russia but not freedom of speech for Russia on the world stage? That's nice. Yes, more isolation, less dialogue and efforts to make peace is what the world needs, is that it?

Just read the comments under the video

Doll, I asked you a relatively simple honest question. I'm not trying to bait you into saying anything. If you don't want to answer then say so or just don't. Your deflect and avoidance is noted. I feel for Russia and I feel for Ukraine. I'm not the other side. However, Putin is a thief and a murderer. I hope someday you realize that.

Nobody presented evidence like nobody presented it to you.
Just to make it more clear (I doubt AM board member are capable to understand it)- it is my Motherland, I am not selling it (no way), Putin being it's President who stands for his country. In this situation al these "terrible crimes" (not proven- Vova is not an idiot))) don't count when Russia is facing hardships.
You will NEVER understand me because you will never understand Russian mentality.
One more time- I am not selling my country and my people.
Here is the answer about "most Russian"

Oh, pleeeeease- " simple honest question"! It is just allegation based on nothing. Pleeeease- have you seen any prove of what you are talking above? It is MY "simple honest question".
I will give you my simple honest answer right now - NO.
If somebody is " a thief and a murderer" it needs to be proven. I hope someday you realize that.
