The way you influence people is by repetition, keeping on with saying the same thing. If you represent Russia as a bad boy and president Putin as an ogre, the one who just threatens the world peace, gradually people will accept that,”
In the fictional scenario the so-called pro-Kremlin separatists have taken over dozens of towns on the Russian-Latvian border, with Moscow then invading the NATO member state to support them.
A ground offensive against “Putin’s troops” is launched by the US and UK, the show suggests, after which according to the BBC, Russia pushes the red button and launches a nuclear strike on a Royal Navy warship, before the war room is told that Putin has mapped London as the next target.

This is an interesting article on Chinese farmers in Russia's far east -

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Rescuers say toxic gas dropped on Syrian town where Russian helicopter shot down
Quote
A Syrian rescue service operating in rebel-held territory said on Tuesday a helicopter dropped containers of toxic gas overnight on a town close to where a Russian military helicopter had been shot down hours earlier. The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) accused President Bashar al-Assad of being behind the attack. Assad has denied previous accusations of using chemical weapons.A spokesman for the Syria Civil Defence said 33 people, mostly women and children, were affected by the gas, which they suspect was chlorine, in Saraqeb, in rebel-held Idlib province. The group, which describes itself as a neutral band of search and rescue volunteers, posted a video on YouTube apparently showing a number of men struggling to breathe and being given oxygen masks by people in civil defense uniforms.

Putin Accuses Ukraine of Terror as Crimea Tensions Escalate

Putin Accuses Ukraine of Terror as Crimea Tensions Escalate

President Vladimir Putin promised to respond to what he called Kiev’s “terror” tactics
in Crimea, raising the stakes as fighting between Ukrainian government forces and
Russian-backed rebels intensifies in the country once again.

The flare-up derailed plans to rekindle diplomatic talks over the war-ravaged region,
with Putin telling reporters Wednesday in Moscow that a proposal to hold peace
negotiations on the sidelines of a Group of 20 meeting in China next month is
now “pointless.” His secret service earlier accused its counterpart in the
neighboring country of having killed two Russian servicemen in two
separate incidents during a covert operation on the disputed peninsula.
Ukraine’s president called the accusations “cynical.”

Russia says close to joint military action with U.S. in Aleppo

Russia says close to joint military action with U.S. in Aleppo

Russia and the United States are close to starting joint military action against militants in Syria's Aleppo, Russian news agencies on Monday quoted Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu as saying.

Fighting for control of the divided city of some 2 million people has intensified in recent weeks and there have been some gains for rebel groups battling Syrian government forces.

Russia backs Syrian President Bashar al Assad in the five-year-old Syria conflict, while the United States wants to see Assad step down. But both are participating in talks to try to find a political solution to end the civil war.

Russian city of Novosibirsk bars migrants from many jobs

Foreigners in Russia's vast Novosibirsk region in Siberia will no longer be able to work as schoolteachers, bus or taxi drivers, timber merchants, lawyers or accountants under a new ruling.

The ban, imposed by Novosibirsk governor Vladimir Gorodetsky, must be enforced over the next three months.

The jobs now barred to foreigners also include preparation of children's food and work in mining or fisheries.

Russian pizza restaurant 'hacker' faces US trial

The trial of a Russian man accused of orchestrating a hacking scheme that targeted US pizza restaurants is due to begin this week.

Prosecutors allege that Roman Seleznev, the son of a Russian MP, was a "master hacker" behind a plan which led to $170m (£131m) of fraudulent purchases.
He is accused of hacking into a number of outlets in Washington state in order to steal credit card data.

Putin deploys Russia’s most advanced air-defence missiles in Crimea

Putin deploys Russia’s most advanced air-defence missiles in Crimea as alarm grows war is imminent

World powers urged Russia and Ukraine to refrain from ratcheting up a confrontation over Crimea as President Vladimir Putin bolstered the disputed peninsula’s military with some
of his army’s most advanced air-defence missile systems.

The European Union said there was no independent confirmation of claims that Ukrainian agents had killed two Russian servicemen in Crimea. Putin pledged a “very serious”
response as he blamed Kiev for pursuing “terror” activities. The 28-member bloc
called on both sides to refrain from intensifying what has led to the worst diplomatic
standoff between the two countries since a 2015 truce eased hostilities in Ukraine’s
separatist conflict. Germany said that Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will
meet his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, next week in Russia.

“We reiterate our condemnation and non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea,” European Commission spokesman Alexandre Polack said in Brussels on Friday.
“There has been neither concrete evidence provided by Russia sustaining its
claim nor any independent confirmation of the claims made by Russian
authorities.”

Ukraine calls attacks in Crimea a Russian ploy

Ukraine calls attacks in Crimea a Russian ploy, accuses Putin of intentionally escalating conflict

Accusations that Ukrainian agents have engaged in “terror” tactics on the disputed Crimean peninsula may be a ploy by Russia to justify an escalation of the military conflict in its former Soviet ally, officials in Kiev said.

President Vladimir Putin vowed in Moscow to respond with “very serious” measures after
his Federal Security Service, of FSB, the main successor of the Soviet-era KGB, said
Wednesday that Ukrainian intelligence officers killed two Russian servicemen during
a covert operation on the Black Sea territory that Russia seized from Ukraine in
2014. The accusation triggered a spike in the yields of Ukrainian bonds.

“To further escalate the conflict, Putin couldn’t imagine anything better than a cheap
theater performance by the FSB,” Oleksandr Turchynov, chairman of Ukraine’s
National Security and Defense Council, said in a website statement. Dmytro
Kuleba, Ukraine’s ambassador to the European Union, added in a Facebook
post Thursday: “This is not a casus belli yet, but Russia is actively
accumulating stories for casus belli.”

Probably, and now oil prices are in decline headed to $35/bbl.   The world is awash with oil.

And when the Fed raises interest rates........ (I expect the 3Q economic reports to show an improvement in the growth rate)

If you play zero sum games, short your RUB now.

I think it will be a good while before oil steadily climbs instead of quick speculation spikes.  Any rate hikes at this point will tamper growth.  Bottom level 'brick and mortar' business and consumer fundamentals that require fuel just aren't there yet.

Putin offers Middle East peace talks

President Putin is pushing to host peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the latest sign of his ambition for Russia to replace the United States as chief power broker in the Middle East.

Mr Putin made his overture to President Sisi of Egypt, who said that it would involve a meeting at the Kremlin between Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, and Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president.

Note Pravda article

Where do US nuclear weapons travel from Turkey?

News reports about the United States withdrawing its nuclear weapons from Turkey raise a number of questions. First of all, one has to admit that this is a very serious matter, if it is true, of course, as it changes the balance of forces not only in the region - the Middle East, the Black Sea, the Caucasus - but also in the region where these weapons will be relocated.

It was built alongside the Little Ring of the Moscow Railways and opened for passengers on 10 September 2016.[3][4] The line is operated by the Moscow Government owned company MKZD through the Moscow Metro, with the Federal Government-owned Russian Railways selected as the operation subcontractor. The track infrastructure and most platforms are owned by Russian Railways, while most station buildings are owned by MKZD.

SECRET 'TERROR DEAL' America ‘plotting to allow 9,000 ISIS fighters to escape
Terror capital Mosul so they can attack Russian troops’, Moscow outrageously claims

The outrageous claims comes as Britain and the US face criticism for failing to stop Assad’s brutal bombing of civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Nearly a thousand US and British troops have been sent to retake Mosul – the largest city under ISIS control.

The RAF and US Air Force are on standby to support any ground attack with major air strikes.

A New Weapon in Russia’s Arsenal, and It’s Inflatable

MOSCOW — Deep in the Russian countryside, the grass sways in a late-summer breeze. In the distance, the sun glistens off the golden spires of a village church. It is, to all appearances, a typically Russian scene of imperturbable rural tranquillity.

Until a sleek MIG-31 fighter jet suddenly appears in a field, its muscular, stubby wings spreading to reveal their trademark red star insignia. A few moments later, a missile launcher pops up beside it.

Cars on a nearby road pull over, the drivers gaping in amazement at what appear to be fearsome weapons, encountered so unexpectedly in this serene spot. And then, as quickly as they appeared, the jet and missile launcher vanish.

“If you study the major battles of history, you see that trickery wins every time,” Aleksei A. Komarov, the military engineer in charge of this sleight of hand, said with a sly smile. “Nobody ever wins honestly.”
