Summer is in the Air
« on: June 06, 2015, 07:57:37 PM »
As summer heats up, many of the forum participants use this time to head overseas.  Others are on vacation.  Or in the case of ML, putting endless hours into his new garden.  For those already in Eastern Europe, it seems to be a time of heightened tensions as we appear to have a summer offensive growing in Eastern Ukraine.

Please take time out to tell us where you are, what you're doing and share with us interesting anecdotes of your summer and your travels.

Traditionally the best trip reports come in the summer time.  Hopefully we will get to read yours.

Big travel events here.  This morning we went to Burger King because a two for one breakfast coupon was about to expire.

Then went by bank to deposit check from yesterday's real estate closing transaction.

Then to WalMart for standard groceries and to pick up tablet computer that we ordered.  Ochka will take to Ukraine on her upcoming visit.

Back home, worked more in garden installing additional one-half inch two foot tall mesh wire over regular 5 foot fence to try to keep chipmunks out of garden.

Taped Belmont race to later watch with dinner at 8:30 PM.

Glad we finally have a triple crown winner so we can stop hearing about the lack of such.

More of same exciting stuff tomorrow.

I'll be leaving for Ukraine this Thursday (6/11) I may not have an opportunity to check-in, here on the board. I'll definitely try to document my trip as I go, so I can do a proper TR. Polishka and I will be going to the Azov coast during my visit. We'll spend some time in Zaporizhia and also Kiev.  I'll be away for two weeks and should come back with changed relationship status 😜

After what Bee Keeper did to Calmissle's thread, I will probably never do another report (never done one here, but did on the other forum in past years). Too many ass-hats who don't want to encourage relationships, but instead p*ss on others happiness. Not worth the aggravation.  :wallbash:

It is a shame as trip reports overall help people learn from others successes and failures.  I also don't give two sh*ts if there is a large age gap in a relationship. It is not for me, but if two people find each other and fall in love, good for them. I will wish them happiness. But too many on here are judgmental and turn trip reports into toxic flame wars.

Just my 2 cents...

I agree HDL. I did one TR years ago.
Learned from that, don't do it.
( I can add by giving advice, based on my experiences )
We have all made mistakes and it does help teach others.
Some have such a pathetic life, the only happiness they get
is from pissing on other people's happiness.
I also agree on age gap, if it works for you, go for it.
I have 10 year gap, no issues.
Common sense, Is not so common!

Enjoying beautiful lush and green Lvivian summer. Don't miss one of Europe's most enjoyable parks if you visit - Stryiski Park, where my fiancee and I do our morning runs and evening strolls:

Oh, you mean like you are trashing this thread? Newsflash, it's not about trip reports.

Yeah there are asshats on most every forum. The internet can assemble many different opinions and that is all they are, opinions. If your skin is too thin or you're too afraid your choices can't stand up to open honest debate and scrutiny then, don't post a TR. That's you prerogative but please, stop attempting to project your insecurities on others who might want to post a TR. Trip reports have a value to the poster as well as the reader. Anyone can read the trip report section and decide for themselves.

The thread BeeKeeper posted in wasn't a TR.   It was rude but realistically, one can be assured that other than the comment on calmissile's colouring, most of those types of comments are probably made by people calmissile knows, behind his back.  That is human nature.

Tag posted a trip report, complete with photos.  I don't recall any rude comments, so I think you are mistaken, in any event.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I believe Calmissle's Arrived at LAX was in the trip reports. If was incorrect I stand corrected. Still doesn't change my view that people on here want to attack and flame. Just my opinion.

I in no way was trashing this thread. And I am sure I have spent more time talking to Tag in chat and on Skype than you. I enjoyed his trip report and am happy that no one has attacked him. I don't need my decisions to be scrutinized by anyone. If you want this forum to turn into a knife fight like the other site so be it. You have many more posts than me. Don't like what I posted, tough sh*t. My opinion and I used a real example that was recently done on forum.

HDL, you did make an assertion that was inaccurate.  Tag wrote a TR.  No one trashed him.  moby wrote a TR.  No one trashed him.  Ken wrote a TR.  No one trashed him.  Bill is recounting all his adventures as a longer TR.  No one has trashed him.

If you read the TR subthread, there is virtually no "pissing on others' happiness" contained in those threads.  Sometimes the advice can be harsh, but it doesn't come from a place of malice.

Just FTR, I am probably one of the few posters who is not particularly interested in TR's, so I have no care, either way, if someone posts one or not.  However, I have read sentiments similar to  yours on the forum, usually perpetuated by the same individuals, who also make the same statements in chat.  I know for a fact it is an inaccurate perception, and that misperception (I use that word generously, as my own view is rather more forceful) is posted here as a fact, when it is not.

I only mentioned the one situation with Calmissile. That happened and was, in my view, completely unnecessary. Because of that ONE incident I will probably never post another trip report. I felt it not only inappropriate, but cruel. Criticism is good, but nastiness is not. That is the report I am talking about, not any others. My view is my view, your view is your view. You and Faux Pas may not like my view, but I only share my life with people I choose too. But you do know that on this and the other forum there are factions that will stir up shit for sport. If you don't see that, and I will use a legal term for you... It is willful blindness. :)

But again my view and I am done defending it

This isn't the other site. You, me or anyone else does not have the ability to turn it into it, either. Any and every post you make in the open forum is open to scrutiny. That's just the way it is.

Then please don't. I don't see anyone begging you to post one. I have no feeling on your views one way or the other. Just because some forum bullies did a number on you at another site doesn't really give you any call to come here and pooh on trip reports, does it? There is a sans response in the trip report section if you need that extra security

There have been lots of cruel posts here through the years, some even made by calmissile.  He once suggested I probably don't look good because of my age.  He once told a RW from Crimea that she had a poor breast job, and that she was ugly and would never find a man.  The post to me is somewhere here.  The other ones were reported and deleted.

Those posts were not in response to TR's, but rather, to something posted that was disagreed with politically.  They were made specifically to "shut up" uppity women.

Realistically, because of the relative anonymity of forums, that type of stuff will always occur.

Depends on the person.  I would have no trouble saying anything I post here to anyone to their face.

The other thing is that you are exposed, willingly or unwillingly, to all sorts of types of people you would never associate with IRL.

While that may be true for some members, I would not have a problem saying anything face to face that I have said here.
