TSA screener steals passenger's $7,000 watch
« on: September 05, 2015, 11:55:18 AM »
TSA screener steals passenger's $7,000 watch.  The details are at the link:

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/tsa-agent-jfk-busted-swiping-passenger-7k-watch-article-1.2348698

Aren't you glad the TSA is keeping passengers and their belongings safe and secure?

I'm concerned about my valuables being stolen by TSA employees. Maybe that's just being prudent.

I remember reading a story in the 1980's about a woman who went through screening.  Her purse was pulled out and searched separately.  She had a large sum of cash, and said she just "had a feeling" so she checked her wallet, in front of the TSA screener.  Her cash was missing.  She looked at the TSA agent who had searched her bag, and he must have sensed something, as he suddenly "found" a wad of cash which must have "slipped out" of her bag.  After reading that, I always watched everything going in, and coming out, of X ray lines.

I have had things stolen out of my luggage, and my mother had a number of new shirts she bought stolen, likely in Vancouver.

Anyway, valuables are safer when on the owner or in a carry-on bag, rather than in the luggage ;):

Title: "Police arrested 86 baggage-handlers from various Italian airports".

This may explain why sometimes your luggage takes so long before it's disgorged by the carousel ;D.

Was there no explanation of why the watch wasn't on a wrist where it would logically belong?

The 50,000 TSA employees at a cost of several billions of dollars, is certainly a valuable contribution to the security of our transportation systems.  They have stopped only one less terrorists then three guys on a vacation in France!

Just sayin'.

I think he had to take it off and put it in one of the plastic bins while he went through some sort of scanner.

Yes. You cannot wear watches through a medal detector. You cannot wear anything when going through the body scanner. Your only option is a body search (AKA groping). As I travel frequently, I watch my stuff like a hawk when going through security. I will say, as I fly though JFK frequently, the TSA at JFK is much better than at most airports. But your mileage may vary.

I purposely go through lines with the hot, hot TSA women employees.  Then I wear metal and have liquids in my carry on.  Just for good measure, I'll roll a blunt before I go through.  If that doesn't get me a free pat down I don't know what else to do.

Unfortunately they always have the man pat me down.  The one with the extremely long middle finger and a smile on his face.

That's possible, but in the caption to the photo in the article the screener is named Margo.

Not sure where you are flying but a hot, hot TSA employee. I doubt even Larry could find a site for this category of women.

Given what I have seen in my travels, I recommend spraying some "Eau de FastFood" on your person, possibly dusting yourself with some Cajun Sparkle from Popeye's also.

The post that started this thread contained an account of an expensive watch stolen by a TSA screener at JFK Airport. Here is another story about a TSA screener at JFK stealing. This  guy stole cash out of a passenger's wallet.

Quote
QUEENS, N.Y. — A TSA screening agent at John F. Kennedy airport was arrested after he was caught stealing $61 from a traveler’s wallet on Saturday...

A 26-year-old Bronx man placed his wallet in a plastic bin when he was going through the airport security check, officials said. He looked through his wallet after going through security and realized he was missing $61.

Police began investigating the incident and saw Bangay, the TSA agent on-duty at the time, take the money from the wallet on security cameras.

Maybe travelers at JFK should be extra vigilant checking their valuables.

Just saw this one - missed it while I was overseas.

Don't know about TSA, but for their hot equivalents you can't beat Domodedovo!  :D  The place is full of them (or was, on my last trip), and they're just SOOOO nice when saying "Nyet!"
