Visa to US for MIL
« on: October 12, 2015, 06:52:17 PM »
Hello,

After years of prodding, my MIL has finally started the process of getting a visa to come and visit. We are about to write a letter of support for her and I was interested to see what others have posted on this, but haven't found anything more recent than 2009. It seems there have been some changes to visas between US and Russia since then. Anyone have some red flags to avoid, or does the same advice from 6 years ago still hold (emphasize connections with Russia and need to return and de-emphasize reasons to stay)? My wife doesn't have citizenship, but is a permanent resident. She has been here for 6 years and our kids are entering school age.

Thank you.

I'm not sure of citizenship status.

I don't think a support letter is going to help your MIL. A tourist visa to America is designed to bring foreign money into this country. Your MIL has to prove her assets and reasons to return home such as leaving property, kids, or a spouse behind. The person interviewing her can play a big role if she's granted a tourist visa or not.

If your MIL is rejected, the good news is you can apply immediately after. There is a cost each time you apply but to improve your chances the second time, write your congressman for some assistance.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

My wife has her permanent residency, but we are not looking to petition for my MIL to immigrate, just visit for a couple of months. She has a flat and grandkids she helps take care of for her son, so we are hoping that will be sufficient to show intent to return. But she is retired and on a pension, so she wouldn't be bringing much, if any money to the US.
