Perhaps each of us can remember the firestorm from some dishonest and useless quarters who tried to silence her message. They made false claims that she was an American trying to speak like a Ukrainian, or that she was a hired actress. Those were lies, and those who said such things are filthy liars, scum.

Yulia is now a member of the government in Odessa, but at the time she was a student in Kyiv, and her message was from the heart.

She is deputy governor of the Odesa oblast and is heading Odesa's customs office.  She is charged with stopping graft and corruption.  My opinion is that she will not be successful.

Given who is her boss, and the fact that she is a determined young lady, I'm hoping that her efforts will be a beginning of something new. Like you, I understand that systemic corruption runs very deep, and not likely that first efforts will eradicate something that is generations old. But I am hopeful, because the longest journey must begin with the first steps.

Whether she's successful or not, I commend her for trying to make a difference. She came across as a pretty determined and motivated woman, she'll persevere thru whatever she needs to do.
