Maybe the dentist in Ukraine didn't respect her nearly as much as you do Clyde.  Can't wait to see your next ploy.   ::)

Muck
I would like to know what ploy you are referring to? You have a fitting username.  ::)

This is true and the dentist she used has messed up other peoples teeth so they transferred him to another clinic. It is like the government, if someone screws up they transfer them to another office.

BTW, I was at Patrick's house yesterday using his pc and he was already logged onto RWD so I made the post without him having to logout, me login and logout and him logging back in. It saved us some time.

hmm.. what's 20k for someone you love..

If you don't feel comfortable walking into stores without prices displayed then is best to stick with window shopping.

I understand your point BC.  Personally, I would not even think about going in a store that did not display the prices and would not even window shop in one but the amount of dental work a gal might need is not something I would give much thought to or worry about.

Reworking prior bad dentistry is one of the down sides to marrying a RW, but there are so many "up sides" that make it all so very worth it.

Ken,

People who cry because of 20k for wife need to realise that expense for a family are more big... and i don't speak about couple with foreign wife, it apply to everybody...

By example, usually couple wish children... how much money will you spend on children from the birth to the day they have own life... amount can reach some little fortune...

If some people are so materialist, it is better that they stay alone... but i question the interest of so life... what is the pleasure generated by a few million on your account when you die alone ?

Right on, Bruno.  University tuition and college living expenses alone, for a typical university in the US, costs $30,000. per year.  Being the leader of a loving famiily unit makes all the expenses worthwhile.  And you are correct, you can't take it with you when you die, so invest it in your family.
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

I am not crying about the 20K as much as the atrocious dental care by a hack who was moved to another clinic because he messed up other people's teeth.

You will have good and bad dentist everywhere, in America, in Ukraine, Russia, England, Zimbabwe. I think it is our own responsibility to check out the dentist we wish to use. Do you just use the first dentist office you see? I think not.

I also have first hand experience with some bad dental work from a dentist in Odessa. As well I have some really good experience with a dentist in Kiev. Over the last five years I have had all my dental work done by this very good dentist in Kiev. Four years ago needed a bridge. My American dentist, $2500. My dentist in Kiev, $260 (plus a $40 tip). If I don't have any known problems I will visit him once a year as I did on my most recent trip just to have my teeth cleaned.

When it comes to finding a dentist in another country I think one needs to find one that is highly recommended.

I just returned from Belarus few weeks ago, had all my teeth done there + cleaning. I already have an experience with American dentists in US (root canal, filling and cleaning).
Well, what can I say, US root canal specialist was great but she also charged me $800 for this great work. The cleaning however sucked big time and was painful. Plus my US dentist told I need 2 crowns ($1200 each) and all my wisdom teeth to be removed since I had a cavity in one of them.

Back home, at the most expensive dental office in town, the doctor did an excellent job in cleaning, putting some fillings and refused to remove wisdom teeth and do the crowns, saying I`m crazy and my teeth do not need it. :)
BTW, the cleaning cost $30 and each filling was $25 (all white, matching the color and shape of the teeth, even the wisdom one - yeah, that`s right, instead of taking it out, the doctor fixed it). The crown would cost me ~$80.

What I`m trying to say here is that doctors are like everybody else: there good ones and those who suck. No need to attach a stigma to the whole country, plus we are catching up with the latest technologies too. ;)

I also noticed that in general FSU doctors try to save your natural teeth for as long as they can, US ones on the contrary immediately offer to remove, put a crown, bridge, etc... Well, that`s my opinion anyway. ;)

Mamma D,

A while back Son of Clyde decided not to post anymore so now his posts are "from the guy who is not posting anymore". A little inside joke for RWD members.

A couple of months ago my wife had her first visit to my (Canadian) dentist.  I was expecting a horror story (based upon reading about David experience on the other board), and I was shocked what I heard.

My dentist walked out and asked to speak with me.  He asked me who has done her dental work before.  I told him it was done in Russia.  His comment was "that is some of the best work I have ever seen!!!).  She had an accident with a rogue ping pong racket a few years ago which partially knocked out a tooth and it was straighten up, as well as a couple of amalagan (SP, I have no idea how to spell that non silver filling) fillings which were done very well.  All in all, a minor cleaning was performed and that was it.

Whooooooooooooo, hooooooooooooooo

I suspect then that some EU dentists are good and some are not. I do know that Lena's son needed some dental work. She contacted a dentist and then arranged for the required materials to be imported from the US. She knew that the dentist was skillful but that his dental materials were Russian and therefore sucked.

About a month ago I was struggling with a Russian magazine (as you do when learning) in Togliatti, I found a big advert for a dentist, claiming to be US Spec, doing deals on tooth whitening.......

My lady read the ad too, pointed out that she would like hers done before the wedding, (and I had been thinking about having my own done for a while) and the ad claimed many Russian celebrities and walls full of certificates etc......... so we decided to go and take a look.............

So we arrive in an office that was so lavishly and expensively furnished I smelled a rat straight away (as the deal was about $250 each - about the cost of one vase in there) and all the receptionists looked like they just stepped out of the Playboy mansion.......... so that will be 2 consultations @ $50 each first....... hmmmmmm......

Her teeth were examined and one small filling was deemed necessary, price was OK, so total job for her would have been OK. I was examined and the guy claimed I needed a wholelist of work that basically involved removing every filling I had ever had and starting over. "When did you last go to a dentist?" he asked, I said I couldn't remember (although it was only 2 months before in the UK where my gnashers were deemed in good order) I thought I would let him pick up the baton......... which he did........

After he had finished listing all the 'faults' he found that must be repaired before any whitening could happen, he managed to get the cost of all this essential work up to $2500.......... of course I said I would think about it and asked him for a copy of his chart listing all these defects (as I had paid for it) curiously, that was not forthcoming  ;D

After I got back home, I went again to my own dentist, (this is a private one BTW not one of Blairs free ones ) and relayed this tale, and asked him to check again for my own peace of mind, which he did and again declared my gnashers to be in A1 order! (He added that if any work were needed then of course he would be more than happy to take some money off me  ;D)

Needless to say, that was my first & last visit to a Russian dentist, my lady is now registered with my dentist in the UK and the whitening will be done here also!

And what is wrong with the FREE dentists of BLIAR? (Bliar is Not a spelling mistake...LOL)

My FREE NHS Polish dentist has done a very good job for me, where my previous Private......English one apart from charging me too much, he made a rubbish job with a couple of fillings...... and nearly lost my teeth.

Thanks to the Polish I do not have to wear false teeth.......and paid not a Penny.  ;D

NHS was the best health system in the world until Mrs T... who started the privatisation and now the Vice President and Honorable member of South Texas complete the job!

Don't start me on Thatcher, she is responsible for these insane house prices we have now, making a commodity out of a place to live.

And she stole out school milk - Thatcher, Thatcher, the Milk Snatcher....

The Mother of a Thousand Dead, remmeber those Jingoistic Days of the eary eighties.

And what happened to the Miners? There still coal under the ground here, but she destroyed the industry to destroy the Unions!

Glad I got that off my chest!

One day the true story and assessment will be made for the damage that Mrs Thacher has imposed in this country ...... but is already late now and we can see the consequences around us.

UK is one of the very few countries where the house is treated as a commodity, which has made the entry of new people nearly impossible. When I first came here to live the Building societies were using the 1:3 ratio (same as the house prices) to borrow money but meanwhile now is probably around 1:30.

What about her statement that there is no community or society but individualism?

Of course, as Ste said, she destroyed the Coal mining industry so now for our energy requirements we depend on Mr Putin and Gazpron.

Before I forget what happens to the billions from the North Sea Oil?

Of course we have the best Railway system now that Major has privatised the system and pay subsidies so his Minister to secure their retirement directorships..........

All I have to say  is that the winter of discontent I was making more money than any other time, because people had Hard Cash and used to go on holidays 3-4 times a year for more than 7 or 14 days.

I think this is not the place to debate the pros and cons of the conservatives........and of course now Mr Bliar is No different......

Have a nice day!

I was always a bit of a commie you know, it's what inevitable lead me to a Russian woman. I half-learnt Russian in about 1980 since I was a totally admirer of the Communist system. I suppose that comes from being born at the bottom of the social pile, we where so poor we didn't have one penny to rub together.

I didn't have any clothes until I was 11 years old. Then my dad bought me a cap so I could look out of the window.

I was never an admirer or follower of the Communistic System but I was born in a Free and Democratic country which right after the German Occupation had a 3 years of civil war and completely destroyed what was left from the Germans. Of course I hated both sides Commies and Fascists for that........and after my education finished soon left and came to UK in the 1970.

I was in a much more difficult situation than you because my father was killed during the civil war by the commies, and he wasn't fighting in any body's side......and my poor mother had to go washing clothes to other houses to feed me.

Yes I liked the system I found then in England and that is why I stayed and married here.

Oh well that is history now....we survived!

I believe Blair has done more damage to the UK than the conservatives ever did!

The country is strangled by taxation, mostly by stealth, and swamped in undesirable immigrants (Wiz & RW do not fall into that category  ;D)

We are at a "last one out of England turn out the lights" situation almost. Conservatives are no better now under Cameron. BNP is the only way to go now I feel. www.bnp.org.uk

They are all the same.......Tories and Labour.....lining their pockets.

Thanks for accepting me as a legal immigrant.... ;D

If all British Governments had followed the EU directives about work resident and permits, now we would not have this large scale problem.

The rules are simple and I have a copy because of my Reps working in Greece:

1. You have to be legal immigrant or a National of an EU country. 2. Register for NI contributions 3 Work and pay 2 yrs NI and then you are entitled to any benefits of Social Security etc.

But both parties let the doors open, no registration and no control because they wanted cheap labour, obligated local councils for free housing and positive discrimination (for any other colour except white) and now you see the results.

BNP is not the solution......because of its connotations and actions!

I will switch off the light when I go and I have a house in Greece but what about you?...... :)  8)  ???

Hey Guys,

Back on-topic please. A little wandering here and there is fine - but let's not let it become a 'theme.'

Thanks,
