Surely most posters are missing the point... these are northern European cities we are discussing...  Should the weather get in the way of (delay)  meeting someone you want to meet ?

Regardless....assuming that this were to pan out.  How would i even get to Sumy?  I think there's an airport in but no flights from Kiev (WTF?) there's a 5 hour train/taxi etc.  I mean is that the right approach, is there no right approach?  Is Sumy worth seeing outside of the fact that it's where my potential wife is from?  I have read that Sumy is a great spot because the girls are trying to GTFO before Russia takes another chunk.  But what about these other places like Cherkasy or Tsyurupyns'k?  I get that they are all unique with challenges, but has someone put together like a cheat sheet that I've just missed? like Cherkasy: lots of girls, but hard to get to and they hate to leave their mothers here?  Tsyurupyns'k:  All the girls are liars, they want you to buy them cell phones.

Sorry if I'm joining this a little late and your intended plan has changed. I've been to Sumy, I spent about 5 days there. It's a good 3 hours by car from Kharkov and longer still from KBP. The roads are a b***h. When I went, the nice lady who I arranged my apartment through on airbnb quoted me a price for her husband to pick me up from the airport, without checking with him. I felt so bad for him after the journey because the car damage probably outweighed by far what she had quoted (far less than any online provider), so I gave him a bit more cash as I felt obligated to out of sheer guilt.

It's quite a small place with some nice bars/pubs and a few places to eat, but very limited in that respect. There is an agency there should you need a plan B (I won't name them as its a small place and a google search will suffice, you may even have met your lady through it). I had mixed results; I would say YMMV, but be warned the photos online of the ladies are quite heavily photoshopped. After a few days, as much as I liked its charm, I felt a need to go back to Kharkov and get the drive back out of the way and done with.

I've been to Kiev in December/January and Odessa in November and I'd say Kiev is still the bleaker of the two. But, I personally quite like that winter feel of snow/darkness outside when in a warm cafe, bar or restaurant, especially with good company. If you find the right lady online, I would say go - irrespective of the time of year. Just bear in mind that things don't always move quickly and you might end up on the plane 5 days later not really having made much progress and scratching your head as to where the time went, what happened, what didn't happen, whether you were right to implement or not implement a back-up plan, etc. Been there, done it! But at least from the UK it's a long weekend away so nothing ventured, nothing lost....

Personally, but what would I know about such, I'd NEVER meet a girl anywhere but her home city. She dates locally at home and makes provisions not to involve children too soon in a new relationship, so why is it different for your visit? There is a reason why she is not comfortable with you in her town and it most often has absolutely nothing to do with children.

If we could not meet in her town, well we could not meet. Period. There are tons of reasons why this is important.

Mendy, I am very surprised that you don't really seem to know or understand the very valid reasons why an FSU gal would not want a foreign stranger to meet her in her home town . . . particularly if it were not a large town.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

You're questioning a guy that lives there,  speaks the lingo, now ?! ;)

Frankly, if a lass refused to meet me in her home town, I'd have knocked her off the list...( and did )

ML, I like Ike too!

Unless it was a really small village, I stand my ground. There are so many negative reasons and not much upside when a gal wants to meet somewhere else.

I agree with Mendy here, as he states and I've learnt from other members there are reasons a girl may not want to meet in home town and not all in a cynical or insincere way. But for the guy it's a real problem and many a FSW don't seem to understand this (or if they do they really feel its a no go for the guy to visit). After having meeting two FSW outside of their home city I would not be doing it again. I would press upfront to do it on the first meeting. I realised my mistake after the last girl that this hurdle should be first up as otherwise it can trip you up later. Its part of the reason I wish to go out there for a while so I can say to girl I am already in their home city anyway :)

I stand my ground.

Everybody has their own valid reasons for doing or not doing things. If a man and woman can't come to an agreement on issues, it's best they don't meet, don't get into a relationship and definitely not get married.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

The last part is hardly likely to happen - if the lass won't agree to meet in her home town / city ;)
