Glad you made that emphasis.   I have to say I feel a lot safer walking around Moscow or most of the cities there then I do many American cities.  The same goes to Ukraine.  I remember walking through a dark deserted underpass each night about 2 am on my way from the internet cafe to my apt and really feeling reasonably safe.
