Okay Ken...
I'll send that off. All the columns& such on the pahe are in percentages of the width of the page with no hieghts specified. I'm a little tired tonight, its 3 am here, so I'm gonna cash & in the mornin' I'll get on it again. I'm going to try & leave the widths as is & specify the hieght in pixels & see what I can screw up with that combination, LOL ;D

Here I is, rebuilding my website on RWD!!!! ;D
Thanks guys got 'em, now to see if it works.
Ken according to my puter the page is bigger than it shoud be as well, I'll try & swich the banners & see what happens.
I think the ligter color will work well Sandro, I'll throw that up right away. I already changed the meta tags & the other stuff you gave the code for. I think I need to change it on every page separately though, bummer.

Hey - this is a FULL SERVICE RW site!

- Dan

Richard, you don't realise what you got yourself into ;). OK, now that we've formerly (not FORMALLY >:(, dang !) taken over your site design, here are a few things I should do, if my learned colleagues concur :

First Page (most important, it's your web visiting card)
1. Use a 3 rather than 4-column layout (left to right : menu, text, owners' photos).
2. Menu at left should be gridded (border=1) with blue (as BC suggested) or violet-blue (complementary color to orange) box backgrounds (menus should stand out clearly on a web page, that's where readers will go for their navigation).
3. Move up the "Photo Gallery" menu item to 3rd place right after "About Us" (this is what most visitors will be interested in initially), and "Contact Us" & "Employee List " towards the bottom.
4. Move the reference to FreeSite now at top right to the bottom of page, unless you want it to have as much emphasis as your other services (attention to page content declines as one reads down). Maybe changing the name to "Our Free Site" will be less confusing (initially I was uncertain about its ownership).
5. Put your "mini photo gallery" at bottom, after your text, and your owners' photos at top right (this will serve to "unclutter" your page).
5. Ungrid the bottom table (my pet peeve). In there, change the logo for FreeSite to ITS own logo, now it's the same as at top and that's confusing. Move all large logos to the leftmost column, and the small ones to their right, this will rearrange them a bit more evenly. Tables with images of different sizes are hard to arrange properly : one trick is to specify the table as having one extra column (4 rather than your current 3), and put the largest images in one column specified as TD COLSPAN=2, i.e. taking up the space of 2 of the 4.

Photo Gallery pages
1. Remove the empty "place holders", they may seem useful to you for later additions but are a sore to the eye (and you're also guilty of PINKING on your own website :-[), by changing them to:
<td valign="top" align="center" width="20%"> &nbsp;</TD>
This will reserve the space unobtrusively. This applies to the First Page, too (ugh, PINK !).

General
As hinted above, most people read left to right and top to bottom, with gradually declining attention. This usually determines where best to place the items deserving most attention.

Remember also that bold, italic and in particular bold italic characters are meant to provide emphasis and catch the reader's attention, if not used sparingly they defeat their purpose : when I first visited your new site, my eyes were unwillingly drawn to the FreeSite reference at right, because it was DIFFERENT.

To be continued ... (this will teach you ;D)

Sandro,

Good Stuff! I've pulled down his main page and am in process of stripping out all the redundant code and was looking at some of the things you mentioned. I'll add in your ideas and then we'll see if Richard ever comes back here again!  ::)

You wish!!! LOL
I appreciate any & all help & criticisms!!
Like I said I ain't no programmer & am working with pages that were originally built by someone else & trying to change them to fit my "new look" you might say. If I knew enough about coding I would just rewrite the whole page & make a new template, sadly that is not the case.
As far as the profile pages go I am already working on changing them. I am moving to a 3 picture format, one large & two smaller ones underneath the large one, a little larger than the current size of the small ones. I am also trying to change the individual gallery pages from the current 12 picture format to a six picture format, 3 to a line & larger than the current pics.
I just sort of threw everyhing up for now just to get back in business & get the Ladies out there & figured I could work in the changes later.
I have the current templates & am trying to rework them & change them to what I need but with my limited html skills it is taking much time & I am making considerable mistakes.
But hey, 8 months ago, I knew nothing about html or building a website. Thanks to several members of this board & my own willingness to learn & improve, I have come a long way!!!! :clapping:

Well, if you rename your website, we could introduce you to the misteries of CSSs (Cascading Style Sheets) :o.

I'm working on the home page. Changing it to a 3 column format and (GASP!) adding CSS to it. Sorry, just couldn't help myself. When I get this back to you (and you like what is done) I can pull down each page and rework the code into an easier to use format. The current code has a done of redundant tags in it and they are duplicated and triplicated (is tha a work?) all through the page.

We can get together and get you up to speed on how to use CSS very easily Richard. It's really not difficult to use for the basic fonts, links, etc.

Oh Great!! I thought  was just getting html nder control & now you gonna hit me with something new, I'm agin' fast, LOL ;D
I just finished the profile template & I can tell looking at the code that it has way more coding than is nessessary but I don't know what I can take out & what I can't without screwing everything up. I just use the wysiwyg editer on my server for Microsoft Frontpage & tweek the coding I know I can get away with & leave what I ain't sure I can get away with. Looks good on the surface & what the site visitors see but boy you take a look at the source coding & it is downright scary. :hairraising:

Richard, it's not really something new, you're already using the syntax in your pages (albeit unwittingly, if created by Front Page), e.g. in a line like this :

<font style="font-size: 28pt;" color="#ff0000" size="3">

CSSs are really STYLE templates which you can keep in a separate file, load through a tag in the <HEAD> section of your page(s), and override anywhere in the <BODY> section through different, explicit STYLE or HTML statements, if needed. They simplify enormously the task of having the same style throughout all your pages.

It's a good thing catzenmouse already found his lady or he'd be asking for a free life time membership to TverAngels
I haven't  ;) ;D.

Richard,

Have a look at this: http://www.lenushka.net/Tver/index.htm

NOTE: Most of the links to not work as I did not change the link URL or copy the subpages of your site yet. Once we get the tweaks worked out I'll do that.

What do you think? You can add quite a bit to the left navigation if you like. Perhaps a "Girl of the Month" or "Newest Girls" Perhaps a weather link to show what it is like in Tver, etc.

Looks Good Ken. The only thing I found I didn't like & maybe its just my puter, is that I have to sroll back & forth to see the complete page. I've been working on trying to eliminate that from the current site design. I have a 19" monitor & figure thats about average these days or larger so have been trying to fit everything so that no right to left scrolling is nessessary.
Scrolling up & down is inevitable but I find scrolling right to left a pain, just to see another inch of screen. Can the center column be tightened up some therefore bringing the outside edges in?
I changed all the pages on the current site so the header is 975 pixels wide & been moving all the pages in to fit uder that & it seems to work well.
Other than that it looks pretty kool.
I noticed the html is somewhat different than I am used to playing with, when I looked at the source coding. Is that going to make a differnce when I add things. For instance I will deffinitly need to add to the bottom graph section for adding more banners as time goes on. Actually I have two you must have missed when you snagged that page LOL, probably added them after.
Most of it looks pretty easy to work with for additions & deletions & changes to the basic content.
I like the layout better than my current layout, good deal.
So where do we go from here?  :)

I can fix the width problem. No worries on that one. I think I only copied the first table of links down to give you an idea of what it would look like.

I've got a couple of ideas about your current editing situation.

1) How would you like a copy of the program that I use? It is easier to use than FrontPage and is called Dreamweaver which is more and more becoming a standard for web work.

2) While you are getting used to Dreamweaver I can give you a hand with the updates/changes you need. I can keep a version of your site on the server I use that you saw the link on and you can copy the pages down for your server with the changes.

You can probably use your current program to make updates but it may add in all the extra code again. If you like the idea then PM me your snail mail address and I'll burn a disk for you and send it off.

Ken,

Might want to try and put a bit of a soft edge on the pictures and esp. left menu background.. starting to look a bit too much like blocks..

I was thinking of putting a little white border around the images to make them stand out a bit. Or possibly a small bevel so they look more like buttons. Ideas?

I've heard of Dreamweaver...even tried to find it here in English but no luck. Russian aplenty however. Had the same problem with Adobe Photo shop, but just recently found a copy in English.
I'll send you my address but already told my opinion of the Russian Postal Service in another thread. STE sent me a disc or two with movies he burned for me before Christmas last year & I still havn't got them, said he was going to resend but no word on whether he did or not. DocRog (don't know if you remember him, he sorta disappeared without a trace) sent me a small package with some software & a video capture device & a couple of other items last October, still havn't received it.
What the hell we'll give it another whirl. Probably best you send it to the office address though, its on the website. Although I have seen them deliverng to our building the only thing that seems to make it into our mailbox is the bills! :(
Lets take the rest of this off the board. I'll send you an email shortly.

You do nice work Ken,  That is much cleaner and better organized.   Nice improvement.

Richard, are you sure you can't find Dreamweaver in English there.  I found it and it only costs about  $ 3.50 which is probably less than it will cost Ken to mail it.   I also had no problem finding photoshop, illustrator, Premier and other programs in English.  Let's see then there was pagemaker, Auto Cad, Flash, Solid Works, Quark .....

Very good job, Ken. My only criticism : I see a very large column for the left menu.  Deliberate, or just my browser ? It could be 1/3 smaller and still accomodate the largest entry (International Flowers & Gifts).

Also, on reflection, I think that the logos in the bottom table could be MUCH smaller, they have an exaggerated and distracting emphasis now. This would also make the table more compact and manageable.

Dreamweaver 8.0 + update to 8.0.1 + update to 8.0.2 + key generator... english version.

http://www.demonoid.com/files/download/HTTP/399343/3891762

You need a software who can download .torrent... the file is 75.4 Mb... download speed around 125kb/sec... same with a old modem, you have it in around 30 minutes !

EDIT : if you have no software for download .torrent file, take a look at http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1126-bitlord.html for BitLord... only 1.3 mb...

I didn't force the width in that column. With all the browser differences will probably work up a specific width column for that one in its own nested table. That would solve the issue there.

Agree on the bottom table. Could easily also go to a 4 column layout there to tighten it up even more.

Rvr,

Did you send the e-mail to the @frit address? If so, I'll get it tomorrow. I'll reply from my yahoo address so I don't have to worry about being at work to get it.

BC,

Will play with a version using a fade like that. Could look very cool if we reverse the gradient on the "On" state of the button.

Thanks All for the comments and ideas! It's a lot of fun to do this with the various thoughts.

Right, OK with IE (I normally use Opera).

Agree on the bottom table. Could easily also go to a 4 column layout there to tighten it up even more.
Ken, if you PM me an email address, I shall send you the code for a rearranged table (cannot attach to PMs, unfortunately).
