Rebuilding Ukraine
« on: Yesterday at 04:31:26 AM »
This is an interesting topic for me due to my background in Architecture and although I am not likely to become involved in any large scale rebuilding efforts in Ukraine it is interesting to hear about nonetheless and possibly for other forum members also. When the war does end in the future whatever the outcome it is conceivable that rebuilding efforts will commence on a greater scale than they are at present.

I have Google Searched a bit and was surprised to learn that more is happening on the rebuilding front already (even though the Ukraine War is still ongoing) than might be thought. Nothing really large scale but organisations have been set up and some signs of movement from interested parties.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first source that came up was 'Dream' nothing to do with young Hispanics wanting to stay in the US despite Trump's wishes but a Ukrainian Government Online Digital Database of current Reconstruction Projects around the Ukraine that it is offering out to tender:

http://dream.gov.ua/en

Essentially this has been set up as a result of Ukrainian Government discussions over Reconstruction in Ukraine.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next there is the 'eRecovery Program' that helps to compensate, repair or possibly reconstruct/purchase new accommodation in Ukraine for those who have had their accommodation hit and damaged or destroyed in the war. Naturally it seems those it can help are currently very tiny compared to the large numbers affected but possibly in time more people may be helped:

http://ukraineworld.org/en/articles/stories/erecovery-ukraine

It looks like International Development Aid from countries such as the US and UK are funding this one as it mentions USAID an UK Aid as funding this effort. The Ukrainian government is broke so of course it has no money to compensate Ukrainians of the loss of their homes. However with the cost of Reconstruction currently estimated to be around the $500bn US Dollar mark it could take a long time for Ukrainians to see anything through this method alone if ever at all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly Ukrainian mining and steel making company Metinvest has taken an interest in reconstructing buildings in Ukraine solely by the use of the Steel it makes. They have launched it's 'Steel Dream' concept to promote this and seems to have undertaken a few projects. It looks like it is looking for donors/investment to undertake large scale projects and it remains to be seen whether any significant private finance will come forth for this:

http://metinvestholding.com/en/media/news/staleva-mrya-metnvest-predstaviv-prokt-vdbudovi-mkrorajonu-v-bahmut

Any private investment of course would be looking to get a decent return on any money invested. Possibly there might be independent charities around but funding from them might be a little limited. While Steel frame can provide a quick construction method there is the question of cost and also whether it is all that suitable for the very hot temperatures Ukraine can now get in the Summer, think oven lol. I personally see MetInvest's 'Steel Dream' as the company wishing to cash in and make profits out of any money that may come forth for Reconstruction in Ukraine. I can't blame them as it's what companies reason for being is about. A lot comes down to how much money as a whole through Western Government International Aid Programs and Private Investment Companies may come about over time and for how long. Private Investment Companies may have to see sense in the figures adding up to invest much in Ukraine so Private Investment might be uncertain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we can add to this anything that anyone else or myself finds along the way. I know many members here might have property in Ukraine, their spouse, partner, or relatives, etc so any information found out in this topic may be of use. If I find out any more information along the way I will post it up here also. If members here wish to discuss Rebuilding/Reconstruction of Ukraine in general please do so here also.

well....
first of all, the war still has quite a few innings left to play

and it remains to be seen howw many young Ukrainians will return when the war is over
my prediction, is not many

and there will be a permanent economic and social problem in Ukraine because of this
Ukraine will become even more dysfunctional

OTOH, rebuilding is a good idea !
cuz Russians will need something to shoot at during the next war in Ukraine
this is why I plan on building a GIANT statue of Putin givin the world the finger, and live inside it, cuz no Russian Gopnick would dare destroy such a beautiful work of art

well...c'mon all ya big strong men
Uncle Sam got himself in a jam
way on down in southern Iran
one...two...three...four...
how much Uranium are we fighting for

so ya see Trench, the best laid plans of Mice and Men
oft times go astray

instead of new rocket targets
I'd figure a way to use the Odessa catacombs
as the basis for creating a "Fortress City"
where everybody lives below ground
and works in drone factories, like in the Matrix

nice work by Atesh tatari school girls in Crimea recently
took out some air defesnses and BIG helicopters
Russians have no clue of WHO, HOW, WHERE

A lot of Ukrainians feel that, that they don't want to invest much in central/est Ukraine if much at all anywhere in Ukraine as they fear another war with Russia. That I think might only happen if they agree to a peace treaty this year.

So people are acting on fear of a particular scenario at the moment that there might be a second war in Ukraine not so long after this one.

What if we were not risk averse and considered that the war might instead end on another scenario. That the Russian economy collapses in a year or so's time and so Russia has no choice other than to pull it's forces out of Ukraine. Maybe in this scenario there is no longer any Russian State left to reinvade, that the Russian State all breaks up into separate countries that will no longer have the power to invade anywhere.

So no threat of future Russian invasion in such a case and property prices in central and eastern Ukraine rise a lot as a result. There would no longer be property selling cheaply due to the threat of the Russians and there would be demand for accommodation because of the loss of apartments in the war. So potentially a move that could make good money if buying property, etc. out there.

hello Meester Architect

git yurself one of them Giclée Inkjet Printers
like these folks
http://www.berkshiredigital.com/giclee-printing

if you've never seen one of these prints, you can probably go to Manchester/Birmingham and see if somebody offers it
this is REAL BIG in Manhatten in New York City, these poster shops sell REALLY cool stuff that young people all wanna buy!
and they do a brisk business

Canon Pro 4000 is about $5,000 in the USA with accessories
also get a super max Canon Digital Camera with good lenses

you could start with Images of local Architectural Masterpieces
Midlands has quite a LOT to choose from
when I was a little kid, I used to spend the summers catching frogs in the the remains of an old water wheel at an abandoned Textile Mill in Rochdale on the Roche Canal
it was beautiful, I think it was off of Bell Street
a lotta early 19th century brick buildings

imagine taking some of those images and applying Photoshop Filters to make more "Gothic" looking images
and sell these to Goth Girls along with idealized Male Vampire images

store yur images on-line
and let customers select the one they want a print of
and print on demand and frame it
or let customers upload their own photos and you print and frame it
how many local picture framers are in yur area?  there's a small bizness right there
minimum tools and materials required

you can also do family portraits, advertising etc
or take a BIG SIGN and break into smaller squares and print a billboard
EASY WAY to make some Sterling with this machine

i'd also go to estate sales, etc and see what prices are on old furniture, etc
and if it's  worth buying/restoring/selling

you wanna find something uou can buy for a low price
add value to it
and sell it for a higher price

i know it's not a minimum wage job like you prefer with a guaranteed weekly paycheck
but this would be a step up for you

get a HELOC to buy everything
and pay it back from what you make in the bizness

this is why you white people, shouldn't have gotten rid of all the Jews
cuz we woulda helped ya'll in yur economic liberation from the oligarchs like Karl Marx did, advising ya'll to have a national labour union/political party

I advise ya to reject the industrial revolution and sweatshops
and instead, become a skilled, independent craftsman

invest in your skills and get an IMMEDIATE payoff

why do you think you English Speaking People have names like Baker, Smith, Potter, Taylor?
what could yur name possibly be, other than "John Slacker, Esquire"

you see what I'm sayin, Trench?
you put forth, such a tiny effort, why would you expect anything more than the same in return

PS
an interesting experiment to try is to see if you can transfer a Giclée print to a multi-layer color silk screen mask
and use it for screen printing for posters as well as textiles

PS2
another skill I think would be good in the midlands, is custom stained glass, and repair/replace old stained glass
you could also just do regular glass window installation/repair
a glass cutter costs $10 in the USA
a tube of window glazing is about $8
you need to buy a tape measure to get dimensions
and you buy glass sheets wholesale

give the neighborhood kids slingshots

Imagination, that is yur creation

Well anyway here is an update from Mariupol:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq6912mqp1go

Place is still apparently largely in a bad state and being in Russian hands nothing but Russia can currently decide what to do if anything there.
