Kiev Medical Questions
« on: October 04, 2006, 06:36:07 AM »
Ladies and Gents,

I'm off to work in say, 5 minutes, so real fast: I've got a friend who stays away from forums like this - although I've recommended this one to him. Since I don't know jack about Ukraine, I'll defer to those here who know for sure. They're going K-1, just rec'd 2nd NOA, here are his questions:

What can you tell me about the medical examination that V must have before her interview.  Will someone call her to schedule the medical examination or will she need to schedule this herself?  Can she go for this medical examination right now or must she wait until the consulate notifies her that the petition has been received and then schedule the medical examination?  She cannot locate her immunization record.  Will she need this record for the medical examination?  If she cannot locate the immunization record will she need to have all the immunizations again before she departs for America?

Thanks for any feedback....    Vaughn

I don't believe the Medical Exam is location dependant, the Kiev Embassy will conform to US State Dept requirements, just the same as Moscow.

IIRC, the medical has to be recent, like within 30 days old.  She will be responsible for scheduling the exam herself, same thing as getting the police report.  Her shot record must be up-to-date, she will prolly get all new shots if she can't get her doctor or local clinic to come up with a duplicate shot record.

Your buddy needs to download packet 3 & 4 --they will answer most questions.
She has to schedule the exam herself--only 2 clinics in Kiev are authorized. She WILL need the KEV # that is assigned when the petition is approved.
Immunization is not needed at the exam, but WILL be needed later (AOS?)

I specifically asked the embassy about time limits--they told me all documents obtained are good for 1 year--police cert; med exam; etc
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Thank you jb, groov and aikorob - I believe your concerted replies
will give him direction - I wasn't sure if Kiev operated like Moscow.
jb, I believe this woman has been a lifelong resident of ?Vinnitsa? so
getting a duplicate record should not be a problem - except for perhaps the administrative red-a$$ like I got when I foolishly tossed
my Migration Card paperwork after clearing SVO2 customs. Little
did I know it was needed for registration, but that's another thread
one fine day....

Thanks again to all.   Vaughn

My fiance just went through the medical exam in Kiev and i was there so I felt like adding a bit of info.

As the others recommended, download packets 3 and 4 from the embassy site.  They tell her/him exactly what paperwork is required to be presented at the interview.

Important, prior to performing the medical exam they need to have the US State Dept tracking number which is not the same as the USCIS, the ones for kiev all start as KEV.  The medical is done by 2 clinics in Kiev as stated, we used the American Medical Center which is the more helpful of the 2.  Call at least 2 days prior to make the appointment.  Plan on it taking all day.  We showed up at 8:30, she had a series of exams including x-ray and we were cut loose by 12 for lunch to come back around 4:30 PMish to pickup the results.

A few tips i would share on this process that can speed things up.  Have him call the national visa center about 2 weeks after the NOA-2 date and see if he can get the KEV number as well as the status.  If she is computer literate or has help she can fill out KEV-1 from packet 3 which is the interview request form and email back to the embassy.  This saves the roundtrip games you get with the mail system.  Before sending KEV-1 she should have every piece of information they need including the police report but she does not need the medical.

We're currently waiting for the response to our KEV-1 which should come this week.

Great tip Ronin...could interject a question on the subject please.  I am coming up on two weeks at NVC on Monday.  If I get my KEV# from them and the say the application and paperwork is enroute to Kiev, can we jump the gun and complete and email back from Packet 3 OR should we wait until we are certain that the embassy has our paperwork?

I would make sure that the paper is at least on the way to the embassy.  The NVC will confirm this.  Wait at least 3 days and then you can email the KEV-1.  It can take 2 weeks from the date the paperwork is sent to the embassy before they have it in the database, if they don't have your record in the database they will not respond.   The worst that happens is that you have to re-email the KEV-1.  Do stick with only one method of contact with the embassy though.

BTW she passed the interview on this Wed.  The questions they asked were how we met, what I did for a living and which of our trips she liked best (we went to Turkey, Egypt, Prague and Cyprus while waiting for approval)

Hint- if she has her required vaccinations completed in the Ukraine, she will not need a new medical examination as part of the AOS processing in the United States.

PS Vaccinations are not required at all for K1 processing but are required for all permanent residency cases

That is an avatar of bruce willis. If I would lose a bit of weight-about 20 kg- I would look similar. I do have that hair line and those sunglasses. Since I am computer inept, I can not figure out how to upload a photograph. . . . .

Forget Bruce Willis.. he's too much of a nice guy..

Keep the extra weight, add a sh!t eating grin and you could double for Jack Nicholson..

The women would be all over ya!
