La Dolce Vita
« on: October 07, 2006, 05:48:13 PM »
I'm in Amsterdam, at the airport, enjoying an all-night layover between my flight from Rome and my return flight to Minneapolis. I've spent the last two weeks in Rome and Capri with a wonderful woman I met through Elena's Models.

As much as I've enjoyed and learned from the trip reports here, this isn't going to be one -- I don't want to share anything here that might be a violation of trust or privacy. I hope to introduce M to this site, so perhaps she will write her own trip report.

In brief, though, it was just about perfect. I broke a lot of "rules" by meeting one woman in a neutral country. It could have gone poorly. I got very, very lucky. We clicked about as well as two people can click.

I believe I've suggested before that I'm probably the antithesis of the one week wonder, and this is no different. I'm finishing the first step in a journey that, even in the best case, will take some time. This first step, however, was a doozy. Now, we'll remove our profiles, speak every day, and meet each other again as quickly as possible. We'll have to see where it leads, but we're off to a good start.

Even if I turned out to be a poor student, I'm very grateful for this site and all that I've learned from this community. I will certainly provide more details and updates to the story as I am able.

Momus,

I'm looking forward to the details. Tell M to sign up and tell us about the trip from her point of view. It would be interesting to hear it from a woman instead of a man. Some pics would be nice!

Rules were made to be broken Momus. I did the same as you with equal success. Ten days in Cairo in August with a lady I met via Elena's Models. You must be flying Northwest Airlines. I could not get a seat on that Amsterdam flight for the life of me.

I'm curious about her visa. Did she obtain it through a travel agency/tour?

Don't be too sensitive, especially offering her the lead in this situation unless you want to walk on egg shells waiting for her to make the first move for as long you're together. If you actually want to write a trip report then you may want to send it to her after you have written it so that she can look at what you've written. Ask her if there is anything that she would like to add to the report, which will have the added benefit of giving her the chance to object to some of the content before you post.

I don't post trip reports myself because I'm too private of a person to share my life to such a large degree, so if that's your real reason then I understand. :)

BillyB: Photos? Here ya go -- I'm sure this is what you had in mind. Too bad I can't show you the photographer; she's much better looking. Seriously, I'll post some photos if M is cool with it. Stay tuned.

Peewee: I think the rules were made to prevent people from making costly mistakes. I don't want to understate the risk I took with this approach, just because I got lucky.

BC: Why? Is there much to do in Amsterdam on a Saturday night?  :o

Rim: Relax, bro. It's not "sensitivity" or "walking on egg shells," it's common courtesy. In any case, I'm writing a full-blown trip report and I'll run it by her to see if she's okay with it. If she's not, of course, I won't post it.

Beattledog: Thanks for the kind words!
