New Baby Report
« on: October 12, 2006, 04:12:26 PM »
I'm happy to report that Evia bore our new daughter into the world on 10/10 at 9:11am.  8lbs, 4.4 oz (that's 3750 grams for those that have learned to use that scale) and 21.5 inches long.

Her water broke at 4:30am, we were at the hospital, calm, cool, and collected at 5:30am.  Contractions described as "real now" vs. the ones she had most of her pregnancy.  At 8:30am she wanted to push but her doctor hadn't arrived.  At 8:50am the house doctor "suited up".  At 9:00 her doctor arrived and was told to suit up in where-the-hell-have-you-been by the nursing staff.  At 9:11, our baby was born.

Pictures when I get them downloaded.

Evia made it look easy, with no complaints,  a few tight hand squeezes, and no meds.

Ah Duh... sorry about that, chalk it up to sleep depervation (last night was tough - we came home from the hospital with late news that she has elevated bilirubin levels.  Medical equipment guy came with a bilibed around 11pm and she did NOT like it, complaining until 5:30am when we finally got her settled down.  Nurse came at 7:30am to take blood...)

Anyhow, she is named "Alexandra Gabriel Carpenter".

Kevin, proud papochka.

Very, very nice! Forgive the question, but how
is Nastya reacting to her new sister?

Nastya is thrilled.  Can't wait to get home from school to spend time with her - she has even started doing her homework on the bus to free up more time.

Oh, off subject, her is a little thing:  I've always called her "Nas ti Ya", which never drew a comment, but I got cheers one day when I emulated her mother yelling for her with a 2 part "Nas tya!".  Just another little language thing, but I seem to have problems with what I'll call a "soft T".

Congratulations to you and your family!
Your Mom is so dumb that she tried to minimize a 12 variable function to a minimal sum of products expression using a karnaugh map instead of the Quine-McCluskey Algorithm.

My girls still call me VAW-gun. When pronounced correctly
my name means "there" in Russian, sort of a canine command.
And I botch T's and soft L's regularly, too. All that aside, Elvira
and I are very happy for both of you. When we get to O'Fallon
one day to see R&N, we will definitely want to meet your family.

We look forward to the visit!

Alexandra has a touch of bilirubin and is spending her days in a light bed, but her weight is recovering - back up to 3650 grams (8lbs).  Mom's milk is now in, so we expect by her Monday doctor appointment for her to have gained weight.

It's OK, as long as they don't get a whiff of that 'new baby smell'.

We, too, would like to pass along our congratulations, from my family to yours!

Darth Vader,

You just don't fully understand the dynamics of life with a Russian woman yet.  Babies are a prize to be treasured and shown off to everyone.

We are somewhat older than most here and we have two sons which are (we think) of marriagable age.  My wife would like nothing better than to have some grandbabies around.  We continue to poke and prod the boys in what we think is the right direction, and they continue to resist.  Seeing new baby pictures reminds her of what we are missing in our little extended family.

You are correct, JB.  That was one of the first questions my future wife asked me, on our very first date.  She had never been married and really really wanted a baby.  Lot's of American guys are older and have been there and done that and say no to more babies.

But as you say, babies are a prize to be treasured and shared in the Russian culture.  So my "yes" answer to having a baby with her was a big plus in our romance and eventual marriage.

But we agreed to wait 2 or 3 years to get to know one another better and do some traveling.

That's the reason I don't dare show her baby pictures--the timeline might me pushed up!!!  :)

Looks like I am not Russian really. I do have a step-granddaughter though, she is 18 months old now, very lovely girl, always smiles... well.. almost always.

Hey Kevin, I edited 2 of the pictures so you can see them better, I hope you don't mind?
