The Latest from One of the IMBRA Authors...
« on: October 21, 2006, 08:56:15 AM »
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback was one of the principal authors behind the IMBRA legislation. In a recent blog entry, he criticizes the "Mail Order Bride" businesses. Link here -- http://www2.ljworld.com/blogs/kansas_congress/2006/oct/18/mailorder/

Personally, I think IMBRA is much ado about nothing. It seeks to address a problem that is not much of a problem. However, I am also a believer in regulation for the "industry."

I am affected by IMBRA so if I continue to search abroad, I have to request a waiver. Here is my history-

1992- fiancee visa. Met her in Thailand. Married-have a son, I have custody. Marriage broke up because wife didnt want to be a mother and had hormonal problems. WIFE detained by police for DV. Custody evaluation went with me.

2000- fiancee visa. Met her at a social in St. Petersburg. Returned her home within 90 days as prescribed by law as she did not fit in with my children and the magic in St. PEtersburg apparently ended at the LED airport.

2001- fiancee visa. Met her in Thailand. Married. SHe was cheating on me within 3 months of marriage. Found out later that she had been a prostitute in Thailand. and no- I didnt need the agency's help in finding her-I did it all on my own. ::)

SO now I will be requesting a waiver the next time through.

I am not a fan of the socials at all. Most of the real women wont go. A woman is much more impressed if the man comes to see her and her alone.

For a pretty good read on what the socials are really all about, the July Harpers has a great article by an "imbedded" reporter. and the engagements- only 10%, but most of the participants werent interested in something long term anyway.

Small wonder why the COngress is grappling with this issue now.

Your two Thai women would give bad RW a good run for their money.

As I always say, "know your woman."

Dan,

Is the senator criticizing the law?  That would be remarkable.  However, the comments seem to be from people criticizing the senator.

Brownback, as one of the sponsor's of IMBRA, was definitely not criticising it - he was trumpeting the reasons for the legislation.

You are correct, however, that most (or all) of the comments were critical of IMBRA.

Now, if we can turn some of that criticism into votes for his opponent - maybe there is some hope yet!

    Huh?
Your Mom is so dumb that she tried to minimize a 12 variable function to a minimal sum of products expression using a karnaugh map instead of the Quine-McCluskey Algorithm.

Never mind, Louie, he lives in a March-Hare world of his own where only certain peculiarly-attired humans have no fear to tread ;).
