What is the purpose of the diversity lottery? Any experiences with that?
Welcome back, your highness, Prince Alfie.

I noticed your featured Charlie Chaplin quote with your signature: "A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure."

If you think you can meet a girl in Ukraine, then have her apply for the diversity lottery, and win~ then you are indeed a dreamer :-)

Better to apply for a K-1 or marry her in Ukraine and do DCF.

Good luck!

So,,, Alfie needs to look at the odds,,, hummmm 100 to 1.   I suppose he could write to a hundred girls and if all of them applied for the DV Lottery he might get lucky if one of them were selected.

However, it doesn't usually work that way.  What does happen is that there are 50,000 visas to be issued, no more than that.  Married couples can file two application, if one makes the cut they get will two visas, if they have a couple of kids, they get 4 visas.  So you can see,,, the odds get slimmer and slimmer as the 50,000 visas get doled out.  Each winner to make the final cut may actually consume 4 or 5 visas from the 50,000 total quota.  There will not be 50,000 single people making the trip to the USA, I certainly don't have any numbers to show for it, but simple logic should tell you the number of single, young, beautiful, unattached Ukrainian females who end up with a green card by use of this method will be minuscule.

As I noted above, that jinx13 found such a girl was a pure fluke, it prolly won't happen again for another 50 years.

Alfie, I already told you where to find a gaggle of young Russians right there in your city.

jb, I like jinx's 40 to 1 odd's better than your 100-1 odd's.

40 to 1 I'll bet the family farm.
100 to 1, well that's a bit different. You would have to call me a glass half empty kinda guy with those odd's.  :-\

Jack,

Where did you get 40 to 1 odds?

After you deduct all those families who take multiple visas, the odds are prolly closer to 400 to 1 against.  Not something to bet the farm on IMHO.

about 40 to 1 just to receive a winners letter based on a 50% washout rate of the 8 million annual entries and then it goes downhill from there based on the number of visas used by prior eligible applicants
