Any suggestions?
« on: December 18, 2006, 08:53:13 AM »
My stepson has a 6 hour layover at JFK on Thursday between noon and 6 pm. Any suggestions on what he can do to keep busy? This was a last minute booking during a very busy time of the year and this flight was the only option.

My favorite is to bring a book since I don't often have time to read anymore.

He  is 15 but already 6' tall. Maybe the flight attendants will think he is 18.

SOC

Not much. It's too far and too expensive to go to the city in that timeframe and JFK is not in an area where there is much to do.

Come hungry with some money (thanks Dad) and go to the food court.  Then go window shopping and buy a present for someone he is visiting back home, or download some new tunes for his ipod.  Also, if you give him some of those transportable videogames he will keep himself entertained for a long while.

At age 15, he should not take a daring quick trip into the city. Plus, traffic can be crazy and he might not make it back for the connecting flight.

If it's an international flight, be aware that he will have to pick up his bags at JFK and recheck them.  Waiting for the bags and moving them usually takes an hour.

After that, he can play this cool downhill sledding game.  Get if free at

and play it on his phone :-)

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

This is very confusing. Aersovit does not fly from BWI so Eco Tours put him on a Delta flight. This was to save time and my having to drive an hour to Dulles when BWI is 15 minutes from home. So he will need to retrieve his luggage at JFK?

Yes, SOC.  He will have to retreave his luggage in JFK, carry it through the customs gate and re-check it just beyond customs.   There will be a check in area for connecting passengers.   Re-checking is fast.  Waiting for the bags is not.

Good news and bad news.
The luggage is following Mike all the way to Simferopol and the bad news, the luggage was overweight costing us $50.00.
