No, I think the cleaned up the bananas a long time ago.  Unfortunately they also had to clean him up off the highway as well.  It never pays to try driving a VW beetle into a tractor trailer.

Ouch. After my Air Force stint, I retreated to Huntington, NY, from where I commuted to college and worked nights at a Friendly's. Harry and his family (I think they had 4 or 5 kids, a squad) would come in every now and then to order ice cream, this was 1976-77.
We got acquainted after many visits, but avoided talk of his celebrity status - after all, the man just wanted to enjoy some quiet time and ice cream with the wife and children.

Successful musician, great family man.

He is one of my all time favorites.  He seemed like a genuinely good man and I believe he did a lot of things for charities.   The 20,000 pounds of bananas song though was my least favorite.  It always bothered me a bit the way he died.  I guess the vw caught fire.  I hope he was gone from the collision.

Very sad demise of Harry, I remember the day but not the details.  Vaughn, quite I privilage to know Harry Chapin I imagine.

Well still preparing for Christmas.  Found a great Russian store providing red caviar.  The can shows this link:

My wife approves and comments the caviar is fresher and not so salty as Russian made caviar.  Interestingly the site actually comments on Amercan health regualtions in that the required prep in the USA removes much of the healthy caviar nutrients.

Interesting.  I grew up in Northport, NY.  Harry was the patron saint of the PAF Playhouse in Huntington Station, where I worked one year as a driver.  He would be a frequent visitor, and on occasion I'd be the one to go out and pick up his lunch.

I was driving on the LIE when I heard of his loss on the radio.  Had to pull my car off to the side of the road, and almost tossed my cookies outside my car door...
