I want to go to Kiev the last week of June, I lie near Denver so I presume I would fly out of Chicago or New York. Will you recomend an Airline.
I had got lost reading the thread on cell phones so a short suggestion would also help me.

You got all kinds of choices depending on where you depart from (Chicago, NY, SFO).  Here are a couple that will get you into Kiev: KLM, Lufthansa, Ukraine Airlines (once you get to New York), Austrian (again once you probably get to NY, Chicago or SFO).  Check Russiahouse.com

Lufthansa goes Denver-Frankfurt nonstop, then on to Kiev. But I'm not sure if the schedule matches up or not. Take a look at lufthansa.com  . Cheers, Wendell in Austin

Actually, that Lufthansa flight stops in Chicago before continuing to Frankfurt.  You do not have to change planes so they list it as a non-stop flight.  I have flown it several times.  Also out of Denver there is a flight to Washington DC which continues to Vienna and Kiev via Austrian Air and Ukraine International. (I have taken this once)  I believe there is also a flight from Denver to Charlotte NC to Munich and onto Kiev.  I took this on a return once, but never on the way over.

I fly into Denver via Wyoming, so these are what I am familiar with.  The last couple of times I have flown on NWA/KLM to Kiev via Minneapolis and Amsterdam.  NWA offers direct service from Casper to Minneapolis.  I am sure they offer something out of Denver too.

As far as airline preference, I like the United/Lufthansa/Austrian Air jets much better than anything I have flown with NWA/KLM.  The former offers economy plus seating, newer planes (NWA uses DC10's) and I also like United's frequent flier program better.  I have been flying NWA just because for me the price has been a lot better.

By the way, when problems have arisen, both United and NWA have treated me very well, while Lufthansa has dropped the ball.  Jack will vouche for Lufthansa's less than stellar service on a flight leaving Kiev last May.

Great news! Pol Travel in Chicago is Lot (Polish Airlines) rep. and always gets me great prices. I do know Ukraine charges about $70 to enter and/or exit. So last time I went to Budapest to fly back. Pol Travel is on Archer Ave. in Chicago. You are going during peak season. Enjoy the quick stop in Warsaw and off to where ever. If you need a list of airlines? Look at http://www.kievconnections.com/borispol_kiev.htm The American Brett Ousley has a real good web sites with photos and places to go. Only he forgot about LOT.    I love the Cocktail 111 (Disco) bar in Kiev. It's in the same building as Lybid Hotel.

   Good Luck.

i've used "gotorussia.com" for my flights. i used to have to take three flights to get to kiev. st. louis to either wash, DC or thereabouts, then to vienna or frankfurt, on to kiev.

this time i flew st. louis to new york, new york to kiev on aerosvit. there was enough empty seats that i had two to myself and could sortof lie across them and "sleep". some passengers had three seats in a row to themselves at the rear of the plane. this was in march so it was not high season.

for those going to moscow, i read in a russian paper there is a new atlanta to moscow flight offered by delta.

I have friends that always go JFK to Kiev. I just wish Aerosvit offered a miles program.. With Lufthansa I get a free trip every 5th or 6th one. That will add up. I also get use of a decent lounge in Munich or Frankfort that has very clean showers so i can hit the ground running when I get to Kiev. I'm married so I dont hit the ground running as fast as I used to. And when I do run she's always a long tail.

Aerosvit does offer a frequent flyer program, you can read about it on their webpage.  They do not push it, but I managed to get a number.

Ok sorry, didn't put the info. from last entery. But in light of those in need for now on using Lot Airlines, using Pol Travel Ltd. 4341 S. Archer Ave. Chicago, IL 60632 Tel: (773) 763-9200 As well as knowing LOT flies non-stop to Krakow as well. For those whom wish to travel to see the place the Pope had his humble beginnings. Please remember that your first time into Ukraine, you'll have to buy Airline tickets out. Ukrainian consulte didn't let me in with out showing airline tickets out mu first time. Plus those whom go to Krakow or Warsaw and take the train into Ukraine, have to buy the tickets in Poland to enter Ukraine. The office which you will need to go to is only open during the day. Addition knowledge is, it's better to buy the round trip tickets on the train. One way international tickets have about the same price as the round trip tickets. I've used http://www.hotelspoland.com and stayed at Novotel Warsaw Airport hotel 1 Sierpnia 1. St. which is down the main street from the airport. You can take any of the city buses from the airport and they'll go, just past the hotel. Or walk, it's good for ya. The hotel has a shuttle bus every hour in the morning.

Go to www.orbitz.com right now.

Continental is offering excellent fares to Kiev during May and June.  Hurry. (I got mine there).

I knew they had a program and I knew it wasnt worth mentioning. You have to make 8 trips before you get a free one. I'll take the miles and more program where you need only 5.

Lufthansa has the best food.

Ukraine airlines served some sort of "mystery meat" on my flight. I can't eat something I cannot identify.

I have taken KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) and British Airways and would have to say Lufthansa was the best all around service to Ukraine of all the airlines.

There are numerous firms you can arrange this through.  If you are prearranging a transfer from the airport to Kiev this firm should be able to do it.  In my opinion the VIP service is pretty much a waste.  I have never used it, but have witnessed others using it, and I do not believe they get through much faster than I.

It also seems to me that passport control, customs, etc..  Is much more efficient at Boryspil than it used to be.  The last several times I have easily gotten through in no more than 30 minutes and most of this time has been spent waiting for my luggage.

I used them when I went to Odessa last year. The employees are very helpful and also made some suggestions so I saved and additional $100.00.
