Going To Ukraine
« on: January 14, 2007, 12:23:10 PM »
Hi everyone, my name is Tuller, new here on this site .
I'm not just getting started, per say, in search of of Russian or Ukraine bride. I've just now gotten everything in life's order so I can get busy doing it.
I've been to Russia 3 times vsiting some old in age friends and met a lot of wonderful ladies there but have been corresponding with one in Ukraine for over a year now. We've been friends all during this time. many emails and phone calls, lot's of laughter and dialog between us.
I promised her I would fly to her in April for her birthday and spend ten days with her. accomidations are no problem so I'm not looking for those. She and her family insisted that I stay in their home with them and will meet me at the airport in Kiev and then we'll travel to her city on the train. (ouch)
She speaks fluent English and is a doctor, my age is 59 and her age is 52.
I would like some info on the best way to fly to her from Atlanta besides Delta.  She's tells me not to worry about anything but getting there and she'll handle the rest. I'm sending her plenty of money to take care of the expenses she'll have meeting me in Kiev.
I'm familiar with the K-1, Visa and the Visa Journey forum but I think I'm smart enough to do the K-1 by myself and I'll be carrying all the necessary papers with me just in case :-).
I would appreciate any input and advice you Ukraine Guru's have.

Thanks,
Tuller

Airfrance, Alitalia, Lufthansa & United are likely to be your choices.  Aerosvit may be another possiblity.   Just go to some of the travel sites including the travel page here and start searching.

You sound like you have your head on pretty straight but don't rush into something if it does not feel right.  You seem like you have a nice connection with her right now so that is a good start.

Thanks TurboGuy and a few off forum suggestions.
I did lot of searching today so I finally call Delta and they are actually the cheapest. I went ahead and bought my ticket with them.
I've got a pile of Sky Miles with them but everytime I've had to go through JFK with them they hung my butt out to dry on that 1.5 hour layover from an international flight.  Most of the time when I missed my connecting flight because of getting through security and customs I just did make it to my flight to Atlanta usually running with no shoes and shirt on.
Without thinking about the time, I called my friend to tell her I had made my reservations and to give her the info.
I "WOKE the Russian Woman from her SLEEP" ! NOT GOOD! NEW experience !  but once she realized who it was she settled down a little with the promise I'd send her a BIG box of chocolate Valentine candy.(It will go in the mail tomorrow for certain)
I couldn't understand her 100 mph hour Russian when she was yelling at me but it sure didn't sound like...helloooo baby..come on over I'm waiting one you!
Ok guys, once again thanks for your info and I look forward to my trip to meet my friend and her family . This ia great forum and I'm certain I'll learn from it.

Hi EL Rock, and thanks for your reply.
I went straight to Delta and the ticket was a $1025.00 with taxes.

The bark can sometimes be worse than the bite.  Surprisingly it is not always as bad as it sounds. ;)

All the best with your trip.

Tuller, just for the fun of it and as a future learning experience go to the "Airfare" section on the left side of this site, click it, enter the same dates and same trip and let me know what you get.   My guess is you would have saved $ 300.00.  Let me know if I am close.

Or, even better, use one of the Russian ticket clearing houses for the very best prices.  Russians travel MUCH cheaper than we do.

We have used this agency for tickets from Ukraine to the US....

Pilot-- pilot_avia@email.com.ua or pilot_plt.kiev.ua

Phone in Kiev-- from the USA dial 011 380 044 490 47 18

webpage-- www.pilot.ua
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

Tuller,

JFK is difficult.  1.5 hours should be enough going to Kiev.  A couple of times my Delta flight started late to JFK and we waited on the tarmac a long time for a gate to open.  Did Delta hold the Moscow flight?  No.  Each time they booked me through Paris (an even bigger fracas) and I arrived in Moscow 10 hours later without luggage.

After that, I started booking flights with a longer layover in JFK.

My fiancee came through Atlanta when coming to America with only 1.5 hour layover.  Immigration was slow and to make the flight to Tampa she broke in front of the lines at the TSA security checkpoint.  RW are very good about sneaking through to the front of the line.  This time, however, it was obvious as she had to scoot under the ropes amid protests from Americans.  Smiling and speaking long Russian sentences somehow got her through.
