Dual Citizenship for baby/Travel for all

Apparently it is pretty straightforward for us to apply to the Russian Embassy here in the USA and have our baby girl added to my wifes Passport.  All it takes is a few forms, birth certificates, and a letter that I'm ok with this.  At that point she becomes a Russian Citizen.

Just one little question:  I'm not signing away her USA citizenship when I do that am I?

The goal is to simplify travel between the USA and Russia.  I'm presuming my wife, her pre-teen daughter, and our baby would be able to enter Russia on my wife's passport, and I would enter on a Visa.  Returning our baby and I would enter on our USA passports, and my wife and her pre-teen daughter would enter using their new green cards.

Any problem with that?  If not, the cost (and ultimately the convenience) of getting the baby into her mothers passport is much less than getting her a Visa.

One can only give up their US Citizenship if they "swear allegiance" to another country.  As in, pledging loyalty of a citizen to his or her change of government or to be a loyal subject to his or her sovereign.  Most countries do not require an Oath Of Office when they are naturalized, the USA does require that of new citizens.  To accept any position that requires an oath of loyalty to another government is an automatic renouncement of US citizenship.

I don't think having your baby put on her mom's passport qualifies.

I'd have to agree with jb here. US law is very specific about citizenship rights and it states that other than for crimes you daughter is far too young to perpatrate, she must specifically renounce her citizenship through a formal procedure with the State Department, it cannot be implied by other actions. I personally know several Navy "brats" that were born abroad and maintain dual citizenship. In fact, my brother acquired Irish citizenship last year with no ill effect on his US citizenship (he does business in parts of the world that are "friendlier" to the Irish than they are to Americans)  . You'll be fine, but remember that you'll need to either get her picture inserted into Momma's passport or get your daughter her own Russian passport before her 7th birthday.
