PBS: Moscow's Sex and the City
« on: February 24, 2007, 03:03:24 PM »
Here's an interesting documentary that you can watch online:

http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/russia602/video_index.html

Moscow's version of Sex and the City explores what it means to be a young, single woman in modern-day Russia. Traveling to Moscow, filmmaker and FRONTLINE/World reporter Victoria Gamburg introduces us to the fictional characters and the stars of Russia's popular TV series, Balzac Age, and reveals how the show compares with the real-life experiences of single women making a life for themselves in Moscow.

Well I like that show.
Of course life of four not such young ( by Russian standarts) women is some far from reality ( in life conditions meaning) but rather close in describing relationship with various types of Russian males.

Also I like humore there  ;D

PS And one actress ( that one who plays a role of Sonya studied in the same secondary school which I graduated from   :P )

I guess this will make guys looking for 'traditional' wives think a bit more... and that is good.

Change the environment and women will also change. - That seems to be the underlying theme.

Will she change after crossing the 'pond'?  You had better bet on it!

The original name of Russian  popular TV show is "Balzac Age; Or All Men Are Bastards"
It is my opinion: this show is  a pitiful  likeness of  " Sex and the City"
Sorry  :(

Olga.

It's "pitiful" only if to  see it like a "competition" to idea of Sex and the city But if take it like a show about Russian males/females relationships first of all and some sort of satire to Sex and the city then it's all Ok with it  ;)

It is not some sort of satire to Sex and the city. If it is a satire, I think, it is very crude and silly "workmanship". It is just show that is adapted for Russian average statistical spectator.

Show "Sex and the city" is political correct mass demonstration of broad spectrum of social problems from unisexual love till cancer, AIDS, divorces, new reproductive technology and so on. Russian show "Balzac age..." it is just an unhappy women' talking about men-bastards and "all men in the World are bastards".

Now  ;D do you really think that talks of Russian unhappy women who can't find men who would fit their expectations ( not such demanding I'd say)  would be about such things like cancer, AIDS, unisex and etc  but not about those very males ;D And is it their fault that all them appeared just bastartds  ;D

Russian show is just a parody on Russian narrow-minded women who can not  solve a problem of their loneliness and because of it they blame all men. This show is just a womanish waffle. It is my opinion and nothing personal  ;D

Well I think that 99% of those Rw who are seaking for husband abrod instead of solving such global problems like AIDS, cancer ,unisex and etc are exactly those type of lonely narrow-minded women

So show could be usefull exactly for males from such boards ( if only they could understand comments behind a picture)

Ps nothing personla Just my IMHO about that show wich I like.

Elen,
in Russia I had a very nice job, I am a  respected woman, I was attracting attention of the businessmen and rich people of our City and region for the growth of culture life in our region, I have the letters of thanks from the Mayor of my City and other Departments, my mother is the Director of a Charitable Fund.
I would like Russian TV to give more attention to the big social problems in Russia not for womanish waffle.

You like the show "Balzac age..." and jokes about men-bastards I see nothing bad. But I have other interests in my life.
PS nothing personal I just have my own opinion about this Russian show   :)

Olga.

good for you.
But show is about RUSSIAN WOMEN who whatever jobs they have and whatever they tell about how all males are busters still are trying to find the only one "prince" among those bastards That's what show is about - nothing in common of course with charitable funds, letters from Luzhok, fight against global warming and etc
If take out "decoration" of scenes then majority life situations and personages are rather typical for Russian reality.

Ps And the first claim of Rw who are seakibg husband across an ocean is exactly that "all russian males are bastard  ;D Why they think so and if it's really so that movie tries to show. I see nothing wrong with that.

Elen! Please would you elaborate on your post above, maybe I am taking this the wrong way. By your statement above my Olga and Russian  wives of RWD are a narrow minded women. Olga and her family have done and continue to do a  great deal on solving some of the social problems in Russia, IE The orphanage and  the theater giving performances for the less fortunate or indigent people, etc etc I see my mother in law do without so these children can have. Remember Elen its just a sensationalistic show just like we have in America to sell ratings, I have lived in Russia and have met many good Russian men....
Looking forward to your  responce...
Maybe you have been hurt bad by one of those so called bastards!!!

Eleboration

Your Olga used that very defenition ( "narrow-minded women who can not  solve a problem of their loneliness and because of it they blame all men." - read her post which was before my one ) to those heroes who were in that show As for me I see them exactly like typical Russian women with tipical problems. And if it's possible to stick such lable to them then RW who decided to seak husbands abroad and who used to repeat that there were no decent males in Russia suit such defenition more than anybody else  :P

That's my opinoin and nothing personal  :P

Satisfied? ( or should I list all my achevments in this life to give more wight to my opinion about that show   ;D)

I gave you my explanation - my words were just a  "repeating" of your wife's words. Return and re read YOUR WIFE's posts and don't take my words out of context of discussion.

And anyway ther is no need to take it's such personal Better go and see that show to get an idea what kind of women your wife called like narrow minded

PS BTW the title of the show is   Бальзаковский возраст или все мужики сво.." The last word is not ended for purpose When authors were asked why was it so  the answer was that everybody should end that word like he/she wished according to their own view at a problem Eighter it's сволочи,( like your wife is sure)  or it could be just свободны

I never liked the American version of Sex In The City because I thought it endorsed promiscuity and superficial values.

It was great way to work out which girls were "easy" when meeting them in night clubs though.

Raising the topic in a conversation and hearing a girl say "Samantha" was her favourite character was a sure fire way to work out who was easy and who wasn't. (Or who WANTED to be easy and who didn't)

Of course I've never been interested in the easy ones!

Reading your post I just thank God I'm not typical Russian woman  :)
When woman says she can not find her  helpmate because all men are bastards I think this woman deserves one of them  :)

1. I have a strong suspection you didn't watch that show at all Because only one of those 4 women in that show represents such a character and even she does not behaves in that way you try to picture here  So I repeat my advice - go and refresh your memory about that show.

2. Guess what's typcal answer at a question "why do you look for a spouse at another country?  ;D ( no decent males in Russian and all American women are just B....)

And I again thank God that I'm not typical Russian woman and I have never met bastards in my life. I chose my "prince" looking at another.
Sorry that my opinion about this Russian show has touched your feelings so deeply.

Now juding that you re-todl me almost all your biography and repeated few times what you archived in life  trying to prove me something it's YOUR feelings have been toughed for unknown for me reasone  ;D

You like this show I do not like. We have different opinion because we have different individuality. And nothing personal.
Olga

Exactly It's just show. No need to expect from it soving global problems , no need to think that all who like it think that all males are bastards, no need to call women who were such unlucky to meet that bastartds at their way of searching for prince like narrow-minded

I will make this very simple for you! you said I think this is your statement not Olga's...

Elen,
Olga said that unhappy woman who blames all men in her life is a  narrow-minded.

You said that 99% of those RW who are seaking for husband abroad are narrow-minded.

From my side to mae it easy for you to see the SAME words in Olga's post I marked them with RED color.
