« on: April 20, 2007, 11:21:08 AM »
Hi everybody,

I am new here. I was married to an american.
Well, after 8 years we decided to go different directions.
I am a single mom. What else? I have this "office job", where I stay on the computer all day long so I can visit your web site.

Welcome Olena.
You offer a different perspective from most of the people here, so you might grow a thick skin before posting a lot.
Do not be offended, even the most agressive guys are great to have a drink with. ::)
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Welcome Olena!

I know it is premature, but when you feel ready I think that your story would be very helpful to WM searching the FSU for a wife. Specifically, what mistakes did you and your husband make, what were the "right' things that you did, and what led to your breakup, etc. As indicated , not now, but hopefully some time later.

Again, welcome to RWD.

Welcome Olena,

Eight years is not a short time in today's world.  I imagine you had many happy times together, yet if the future seemed filled with unhappiness, it was time to move on.

I imagine you have a lot on your mind.  Please feel free to share.  Many of us will be genuinely interested.  This includes not only the past (which you may not wish to talk about, at least now) but your plans for the future.

And frequently we have disagreements needing a Russian woman's perspective.  And your participation would be splendid.

On this board you will find other FSU (former Soviet Union) women.  Some are happily married living in America, some are in the FSU considering marriage to Western men, and some are in FSU not looking for Western men but interested in what is discussed here for their own reasons.

Welcome!!!

I have a question.  Do you plan to stay in America?

hello, Olena

Are you ukrainian or russian? What would you like to tell or ask? For me for example it will be more interesting to read your impression about american men in general and about how  american men in USA look at russian or ukrainian women. Don't shy, no politic, tell us russian/ ukrainian women (who stay here in Russia or Ukraine) about that, pls .Only your personal view.

with the best wishes,

Sofia

Hi again.  :)

Thank you for the warm welcome.
I am trying to figure out out how to start a new topic.
So I'll try to answer to some questions here, I hope it's O.K.

To Sofia,

I am from Ukraine.  :)
As to my impression about american men in general, well, I guess I can say I've been around good guys. ;D
My ex-husband was the first american I dated and we ended up getting married after we lived together for about a year.
Most american guys are kind, helpful, generous and caring.  ::)
As to how they look at russian women, one of my coworkers always says that the most beautiful women live in Eastern Europe.
And that is so true!  ;)

Hello Olena, The most 'beautiful woman' from Eastern Europe, now lives in Texas with me :couple:   I am sure that the married and near married men will disagree with me about me having the most beautiful woman ;)

Of course, "neighbors" in Texas means less than a day's drive away, lol.  As for myself, if I were any further south in South Texas . . . my feet would be wet!  ;)

Welcome to RWD, and, belatedly, to America.

Since the wife and I just spent a truly enjoyable evening with Michaelangelo and his lady last night, I'm here to tell you, Texas AM/RW couples are supreme.  I'm looking forward to the next meeting...  We gotta do this more often.

I am not bad, Sofia.
Let's just say I was married to a guy who was in the military.
And it was too stressful sometimes.

I have quit military when i have married a RW... military ( specialy Navy ) is not really compatible with married life.

Maybe you can visit the section for Russian woman from these forum... i am sure that the moderator there ( Lilly ) can have some interest in your own experience... She is fiancee to a military man... maybe you can help her to resolve some future problem due to your own experience.

Hello Olena,

Welcome to RWD!

It's interesting you mentioned the military (and career) being a factor in your marriage and it made me wonder how many of us (western men) need to (or should) make career changes after marriage.  I know I certainly need to make some dramatic changes because my job requires lots of travel and I don't believe any marriage can survive with prolonged periods of absence.

(btw... I'm making my changes now...  not easy but well worthwhile after My Girl comes to Oz.)

I hope you enjoy RWD and am sure your opinions will be greatly appreciated by all here.

Bruno, I am NOT his fiancee, at least not yet :)

The Russian Ladies Board looks to me as the place where people are supposed to ask for opinions of Russian, or for some first-hands info from Russians, but I don't see it as a place for Russian RWD members to socialize among themselves :)

But Olena is most welcome to visit the board and to comment, for sure!

Yes Olena, of course I am interested!

Could you please tell what particular things do you find stressful about living with a military man?

You are absolutely right.
Being away from each other for long peroids of time is very hard.
And with the US military and the situation in Iraq, where families end up being separated for over a year and then the guys come back for a year and get orders to go back to war.
And during this time the wife has to take care of everything herself. And it's very very hard on kids.

Lily, I might talk to you about all this stuff on your board.
Thank you.

Olenushka,  :)

you are most welcome to the Ladies Board of course.

It is not MY board, in fact. I just volunteered to moderate it. It is thought as a place on RWD where people are supposed to get a Russian woman perspective on some issues of their interest, that people may not find elsewhere. Of course it's not about just Lily's own prospective :)

The more Russian women will participate, the better!

So you say that the long absence of your husband was the worst thing. Could you please be more specific about that? May I suggest, for instance, the following details like:

- you don't know what happens to him at that time and you are worried for his well-being;
- you needed his daily assistance and struggled with life without him;
- you felt deprived of love;

those are just my imagination...anything else?

Lily,
the worst thing for me was when he came back after being gone for 1 year and it's like starting over. You don't know who this stranger is and it takes time to get used to each other again.
We did communicate thru e-mails and phone.
But it's just not the same. During his military career he was away from home a lot. Well, he changed and I changed and we ended up separating. O.K. enough for that.
I have a couple questions too.
- Does this forum help RW to find their "better half"?
- Have there been more positive than negative experiences?
- Where can I read about guys' who traveled to Ukraine/Russia?
(even though I was married for 8 years, my husband never got a chance to see my country and my home town)

Olena, this forum is primarily nit for matchmaking, but for exchanging of opinions...RW mostly don't look here but read and post..however, does anyone know of any success stories?

as to the second, I got the impression that many positive experiences are just seldom shared.
of course you can read Travel reports here.
