Even jb wouldn't stoop so low as to rate a woman's appearance.

I guess I know where I rank.

But that's alright, I'm the one already married, going on four  years, to a beautiful, intelligent, educated, charming, and sexy Moscovichka, so I do have some things going for me.  Since Doug assumes I will stoop low, just not that low, that gives me some leeway.

dan, i am not baiting or attacking. i just want to point out, men and women have been using the "1-10" scale for decades. remember a movie with farah fawcett, "10" ?? it was out at least 20 years ago and i still see her poster from the movie on little boys walls.

my  own sister rated me, so what? she gave me a 7 1/2 and i think i got the extra 1/2 because i'm her brother.

there are a large number of "rate me" photo sites where people submit photos for the general online public to rate.

what is the big deal about the 1-10 scale? there is not a poster here that does not rate woman's looks one way or another, with or without the 10 scale.

saying one lady is beautiful, or another is plain or yet another is ugly, is rating her, whether you use a scale or not.

i just do not know why the "10" is such a problem with a few people here. if someone here is not posting it, they certainly are thinking it unless they are blind.

Robert, you have, indeed, baited - and you have been baited. It doesn't matter, I just want it to stop - and I appreciate the civil exchange between you and Doug recently.

As for the rating, yes, I recall the movie from the 70's - and I also recall it was controversial even then. I do not believe the fact of using a rating scale was offensive, I think it was the sheer arrogance of someone on the board believing they have the right to stand in judgment of another's decisions and experiences.

You see, it is a fine line between offering legitimate 'advice' based on experience and standing in judgment on someone else.

I think most of the newbies really WANT to hear from the experienced guys here. What they do NOT want, is for guys to set up a feeding frenzy of criticism that has little, if any, productive outcome. That is what I perceive as having happened in PhotoGuy's case. His enthusiasm was met with cautionary responses (appropriate) that soon broke over into what seemed (to him and others) as an out-and-out attack and insult to his choices and his girl's motives.

I further think that some of the strong opinions on the board come from members who find it difficult to recognize when their 'advice' comes off as overwhelming criticism - whether intended that way or not.

There are numerous 'lessons' for everyone in this - and I hope we all walk away a little wiser.

FWIW

- Dan

oops..my "doh! stupid brain!" was in reference to my mistake of it being farah fawcett, instead of bo derek. at least they are both "10's"  ;-)

dan, i know before i was baiting doug but this last post is in defense of the rating scale, not my using it to judge doug's girl. i agree i should not have rated doug's girl, but the fact remains that the rating scale is indeed a very old and used scale.

i am also happy doug and i can have a civil discussion about other topics, i'll try and be sure it remains that way...

Actually, I apologize, -I didn't intend it to read that way.
Let me re-compose. 'Even your friend and mentor, jb, would not
do such a thing.'  sorry jb.

Doug,

I knew what you meant, I was just having a little fun with you.

I know how things get tangled, I contribute to a local blog, and I have to read, read, and re-read everything before I post.

I've been emailing her. She's a 10. I told her about Larisa, but she keeps on sending me photos of herself in skimpy outifts, bikinis, etc.
She says she has no interest in leaving Africa. She wants me to move
to her village where she lives in harmony with nature. I told her no-thank you, I belong to Larisa. Doug
gee doug, i thought you attacked me for rating women and told me how low class it was. this lady is a "10"??  you must be joking. if not, i can see why you are so taken by larisa. you belong to a woman with whom you have never had relations? lost puppy! i suggest you go to the village, learn to hunt and live happily ever after with your "10". i have to admit, she's better than larisa.
[/quote]I thought Doug means this girl is 10 years old!
