Belarus Situation...
« on: May 07, 2007, 02:49:41 AM »
Has anyone had any bad experiences with Belarusian women, who are not yet US citizens, visiting Belarus.  I heard that policies have changed recently, and special paperwork will need to be completed prior to them being able to exit the country.

Has anyone heard anything about this yet or better yet had an experience that they would like to share?

Thanks

Todd

Is this paperwork from the US side or the Belarus side? I guess either way it would be best to go the source (either US govt or Belarus govt sites to find out).

It isn't as pressing now as we delayed the trip from November to next May.  However, I'm still interested.

Well with the current state of "MY" knowledge, there's been no issues. Allthough they try all kinds of tricks to squeeze some money out of people going abroad.

But as I'd like to know in detail myself, I'll put my "information digging beaver" to "work"

I know this though. They try to make Belarus people "register" at embassies in their regions outside of BY just for the purpose of squeezing some $$ / €€€ out of them. I haven't yet come to a conclusion why yet though.  Will dig into that too.

A friend of mine that went from Denmark to BY with his wife this summer didn't have any issues at all what-so-ever.

But !!! if they give up their adress in BY, they seem to loose any demands to family property in case of someone dies.

All partial knowledge, as of yet. I will explore all this in great detail this christmas when I go there anyhow as we have to make some "agreements" about various topics with the family.

Hope you can settle with this for the moment :)

I'll provide bits of information as they hit my brain .... be sure to remind me   :cluebat:

I went home in spring, 2007. All I had to show was a green card and my Belarussian passport. No problem.
