Forrest was obviously named after Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate Cavalry General who coined the phrase, "Get there first with the most men".  It was not uncommon in the South to give a boy a surname for his first name.

This, I'm sure, has been discussed ad nauseum. But, to answer your question:

Lily wrote:
"Probably to talk to her on the phone, and get her on the webcam, even better."

Yep, especially the webcam, will at least show you that the girl is involved.

"The more pictures you get from her, the better."
They can have quite a large number of pics to send.  The scammer who first contacted me, "Katya", sent me a total of about 50 I think, maybe more. I still have them along with her letters.  "She" holds a special place because I wouldn't have investigated into real possibilities without her. Probably should either send her a finder's fee or track her down and shoot her. Haven't decided yet.  ;)

Btw guys, what particularly do you doubt now about the Dave24' girl : Ekaterina's very reality, or her intents about Dave24?

Lily, it's not Dave24's 'girl' as much as the situation itself.  So it's the "intent" I guess. Of course the lady in the photos is real, as she actually reflected the light into the lens of the camera - whether she is the person sending the letters is a different question. Whether she's real or not is irrelevant to the situation.  I tried to explain it to you a little up thread.  A lady contacts him out of the blue... she sends him photos which he claims is of a woman that he could not imagine himself being with in real life (Come on Dave, where's the confidence man?)... she has poor English so cannot really understand what he writes, which makes "falling in love' with him after a few email letters even more absurd.  There's something wrong with the situation.  Again, think about how you, as a real lady, would progress in your correspondence... would it not be different?

His BS detector should be screaming, lights flashing, probably even melting down... but, for some reason, it seems the kryptonite of that wonderful internal detector is often a pretty female picture for these types of scams (and a pretty face in real life 'nightmare turned reality').  It IS warning him loudly and clearly, which is why he's around asking questions - but that kryptonite.. is..... making..... him..... weaker.... heh.... no worries though because she'll eventually get around to revealing her motive... and unless he's completely overdosed on Idiot Pills, he'll stop holding on at that point.  Dave24 hasn't really given us all the details of his little email adventure, but everything he has said so far points directly to an email scam.

Serebro mentioned making friends before she went to the US... but I highly doubt she began telling guys she loved them or wanted to "be with them" after only a few emails.

Okay, maybe this way... Most (not all of course) of us guys have corresponded with many real FSU ladies in this quest for our soul mate.  Over the past two years, I'd guess the number of 'real' interactions I've had which have gone for more than 5 emails have been about 70 or so with countless hours on the phone as well.  The number of "Russian ladies" who contacted me out of the blue while I was on two American dating sites, maybe 15-20 in 6 months (haven't been active on an American dating site in the last year and a half).

Real ladies who have said they love me or want to "be together" after 5 emails? ZERO
Out of the blue Russian ladies magically appearing in my in-box from American dating sites? ALL

For any of the guys who have been around this for a while - these email scams are no-brainers, just nonsense floating through the in-box.  Gold diggers and some pro-daters are also pretty easy to spot due to their narcissistic nature and behavioral patterns... it's the pro-daters or GCG's who really know how to play the game, at least for me, who would be toughest to spot early on, or on a single, week long trip. Only one of many reasons extended face to face time, multiple trips, etc...  are all so important... not to mention actually building a relationship..

Hope that helps you understand our skepticism...  :)

Dave, I have initiated ALL of my contacts at the international dating sites..Is it what you call contacting out of the blue? just not sure what does the expression means.

Agree with you that saying i love you after 5 email is rather stupid...but as far as I am getting acquainted with letters from FSUW to AM, unfortunately many of those ladies are far from being smart  :( ..my very iMHO, or at the very least are unskilled in writing.

Ahh, I see... yes, that's what the expression means.  You mention being on "International dating sites".. not really sure if you mean "International" a site specifically for people meeting abroad, or a site from another nation, such as an American dating site..  Of course on a site for "international dating", one would expect initial contact from both men and women. Completely normal.

On an American site, I never received a letter from a Russian lady who did not, at some point, ask for money.

okay, here's the weird scenario

1) Email from "Russian" lady on American dating site.
2) Begins to immediately have "feelings" for him, and just knows he's the one.
3) answers maybe one or two personal questions with very short replies but then rambles on about relationships, love, marriage.. doesn't follow up on many (if any) of his answers to her questions. Nothing resembling a real conversation but he rationalizes it away as her poor english skills.
4) Says "I love you", or she thinks you are her soul mate, or wants to have YOUR children
5) Does not ask the man to visit her, but instead makes excuses for him not to visit if he wants to meet. (Russia is so dangerous.. criminals are everywhere.. an American was beaten or killed, etc)
6) Begins asking for money while professing her undying love and devotion... internet access, english lessons, Visa/ticket, sick relative, already has a visa and on her way to you but is suddenly stuck somewhere and needs him to send cash.

I can't imagine a normal lady, seeking a normal relationship/marriage doing the above - even with not so good writing skills.

Right now Dave24 is somewhere between 4 and 6.

There is a difference in the conversation with a serious woman seeking a partner and a scammer fishing for a sucker.  I don't know how else to explain it. Perhaps someone else can do a better job?

I doubt very seriously if any normal man would think you are a scammer, Lily, if that is something you are worried about. Some guys are paranoid and think almost everyone is up to something but you don't want to waste your time with such fools anyway.

Maybe the best way to understand the difference is to read the letters from scammers.  I'll be happy to PM you the letters from Katya so you can see what I am talking about.  There is also a website/forum which has a ton of these kinds of letters ... I can't remember the name, ran by an FSU woman whose name I also can't remember! Geez.. FSU Detectives,  Russia Detectives, something about detectives... anyone know the site I'm talking about?  It's all about scamming and avoiding it and the lady does investigations in Russia.  I posted there a few times before I found this site.  There are hundreds of these type of email scam letters there.

Thanks Dave, got your point.

Well, probably some people may also think that I am a troll, or at least not real. I still keep receiving similar questions.
You can look up my very first thread when I appeared out of the blue asking a question, and then had to defend my reality...

Lily, for more information on scammers and their letters, you may consult some of the sites listed in the Anti-Scam Table in the Scam Avoidance menu at left.

As for your worries about possibly being mistaken for a scammer, you might run yourself through the ScamCard also there ;D ;D ;D.

Dave,

Good explanation.  If possible, it should go to the FAQ section under the Question:  Is the woman writing me a potential scammer?

Im new to this site so hello everyone. You all seem very nice and informative on this.
This is my situation. I have been coresponding with this young lady over 12 or so emails. She started writeing about how she loved me and thought about me all the time after about the 6th email. I emidiately thought that was strange but am going along with it for now. She has sent me 10 pictures but none are sexy and i would not consider her a model by any means.
She never talked about money before i mentioned it about travel. She said in early email that she had traveled to germany, turkey and italy. Whe she went to check on travel to the USA she was surprised at the cost and wondered how she would get the money, which bothered me. I told her that this was a long process and not to concern herself with that right away but just have the info so she knew what was invovled.
She gave me her phone number and we have spoken half a dozen times although it is hard for me to always understand what she says and for her to understand me i think. She speeks surpriseingly good english but seems to talk fast when excited and there is static on the line too.
I asked for her address so i could send the flower and do the scam check and she gave me her address. She lives in Cheboksary. Here is the twist. The delivery was not made and they said that no one at the address knew her and that no one answered the phone. Well i wrote back thinking this was a definte scam saying i would spend my money to visit her in Holland where my sister lives of travel to Russia and visit her there. She said that was ok with her. I also said i was going to try and send flowers again and did i need another address? She said no use same address that she was on holiday from work and would be home. We email each other everyday or everyother day now. If i can figure out how to post her picture i will do that for you. She is realy starting to confuse me. Part of me says scam part of me says no scam. I can post any of her letters too, i saved them all. She said she went to a pedagogical university, which to my understanding is a teacher but that is all she really said about her job.
She told me she lives with her father and mother. If you can give me your opinions on this i would be grateful. If you need any more info i will be glad to supply it if i can.

Rando,
A bogus address where nobody knows her and can't make a delivery, love after 12 letters.  It should speak for itself.  Non of the ones that I'm corresponding with (Except the scammer) says such things.  I expect the pics she sent you, are a scantily glad model.  Why don't you post them here.
Feel free to pm me, if have any advice, questions, or anything else.

Hello Rando, and welcome.

When you make a post, you should see Additional Options... under the white area where you write your text. Click it and it will expand to show Attach: with a "Choose" button, allowing you to specify the directory and file name of your photo. Notice also the (more attachments) option for additional photos.

More important, I'd say your case doesn't look too promising ;).

Yes my friend!  I never thought to be engulfed in language/logistical difficulty and be so taken by the heart.  I have had a personal translator/interviewer the entire way.  She's a country girl and I may have stumbled on one of those several carat diamonds from Arkasas.

Welcome, Rando22.

Hope springs eternal.  That's why you got excited about this girl.  Many of us have...been there, done that.  Got the spent money and dashed hopes.

So--wanna learn from us?

Then forget this girl.  She is a scammer.

Do you really believe she fell in love with you through your letters?

So move on.  Begin with study.  Read RWD-- current as well as old posts.  Become an expert in the ways girls can scam a guy so you won't be as likely to be scammed.

Then pick out a good city in the FSU....and go to that city.  Schedule meetings with 6 to 10 girls.  Hopefully, you'll click with one of those girls and can get to know her slowly, over time, in repeated trips.

This is no fairy tale, Rando.  It's real life.  And in real life, love does not come the way it "appears" in this case.

Good luck.  And hey-- go to the introduction thread and make a post, telling us more about you.

~ Si

She's kinda like the email spammers.  They send out a million emails, and one idiot sends them his bank account #.   Same with these girls....they write to hundreds of lonely hearts and one of them sends her dough.
