Real names or codes?????
« on: May 21, 2005, 09:01:14 AM »
This issue came up in the other poll I started.  About using the real names in a post, and most specifically a trip report.

In my trip report last year I did the whole A1, N2, and L2 thing.  I thought this was standard practice.  My 'A" abbreviations must of went up to A8.  I thought this was done to protect the innocent, as well as the guilty.

For example, if you are writing a girl, you don't want to be reading about her meeting some other guy.  Some guys like to figure out whom you are talking about and search the websites until they got it right.  You should have seen some of the PMs I got last year. Guys asking me if they were right about A2 and such.  I guess they were just curious.

So what do you guys think?

Should we use real names in the trip reports or codes?

If you ever marry a girl she will not like her name blasted across the internet.  I voted to use codes.  No one here cares what your lady's name really is, why compromise a trust?

Scott,

I have had the characters in my trip reports not only read them but e-mail me to complain that I misrepresented them!!

I warn people about posting too much information (TMI)  but very few people listen.

I know several guys who have had to pull their trip reports off the boards.

Doug was sarcastic when I warned him on the second page of his trip and look where that lead...

I think its pretty silly personally.  I mean lets face it, Elena, Natalya, Olga, Svetlana, Angelica, Yulia are all very common names.  Its not like you are likely to meet, hang out with and introduce your future wife to any of these guys on this message board

I see no harm in giving first names as long as you are not giving detailed information. Especially if she has a very common name. If you want to call her O 47 it is up to you.

The first letters sound like a Khafka novel.

Do you mean where Khafka was forced to defend himself against a "secret crime"?  Interesting analogy.

I vote for codes as well unless using a first name won't compromise someone's privace, e.g. Elena from Moscow is ok as there are 1000's.  One should always respect other people's privacy.

I was thinking of Joseph K from "The Trial" which is the strangest novel I have ever read.

What works

Use a name that is similar to the one you are referring to. Nastya for Natasha, Elvira for Elena ect. The G-2, the H-4, the L and the N is just plain silly. It breaks up the flow of the message or post. If you are going to post you want to be heard right? Why weaken it with a distraction?

In a city it does not matter unless you use last names as well.  If you are talking about an agency there may really be only two Olgas, Tatianas, Elenas, Svetlanas, etc. in a given age group at a given height.  If that is the case use codes.  So, use discretion and protect the innocent.  Unfortunately, most guys do not end up marrying the girls of their trip reports so discretion goes a long way.

It would be prudent for the poster to use codes imho.

She has a very common name and has not had an active profile on the agency site since December. I have never given her last name. Do you really think a code is necessary in my situation?

Don't use real names.

Substitute an American name for them. Sally, Betty, Suzi, Dorothy, Peggy, Debbie, Cindy, Molly, Holly,
Patty, Lucy ETC.

Use nicknames like Jedi Girl, Ninja Girl, Surfer Girl, Bat Girl, Nogi Girl, Glaza Girl, ETC.

I usually use the place name for any girl that I am with more than a day or so. I know it's not completely discreet but gives an idea of the place she's from and in most cities there are tens of thousands of women if not more.

If it's just a one off date then I use, girl 1, girl 2, etc in Lviv or wherever.

Some of it may depend on how likely you think the girl might know of this forum, still not many probably do helped by the fact that social media has taken a lot of attention away from the world wide web and forums. If concerned then pass over a lot of the details so that it could almost be anyone.

To me it doesn't bother me too much that I want to go the whole hog and change almost everything apart from the broad strokes of a trip report that won't identify me. Mostly there is nothing that I wouldn't wish to have my name put to it on here, I am as I am.

I have never used a gal's real name in any posting here.

Except when I am repying to one of our female posters here.
And maybe those aren't their real names anyway.
Don't know if parent's would name their daughter Pitbull.
