Most likely you will have to go through Kiev by plane or train.
You can take overnight train to Kiev and then catch the fast train to Kharkov.
Or take the flight to Kiev and then to Kharkov.

Three ways you can do it.
One way is by bus,I don't recommend it at all. About 80 grn one way. No bathrooms on the bus ,but it makes scheduled stops between running cars and semi' off the road in the race to get there.
Another is by train, slow cheap and steady.
You can fly however there are no direct flights between these two cities, so you will fly via Kiev ,and your total time from city to city will be about 7-9 hours. It'll cost you about $250 rtn. And that's not including time before departure,so it may be faster and easier to take the train.

On average, there are two to three trains per day on this routing. The fastest and easiest is 14 hrs, an all-nighter that leaves Odessa at 650pm and arrives Kharkov in the morning at  850am. Save the hotel/apt cost and sleep most of the way.

Hey Don! :) Good to see you on this board as well :)

Having just come back from Ukraine and taken a train to Kharkov from Kiev, and Taxi to Vinnitsa from Kiev and then back to Kiev from Vinnitsa; a bus to Lugansk from Kharkov and a plane from Lugansk to Kiev -- it is my personal opinion that the only way to travel from city to city (especially over distances of more than 300 miles) is by plane. I'm all about getting from place to place quickly. When I travel I don't much care about pinching pennies, so I'm prepared to spend more money to get to where I'm going, as the faster I get to where I want to be the more opportunity I will have to do the things that are important.

Is a ticket from Odessa to Kharkov really $250?? Wow, that seems spendy. I think the ticket from from Lugansk to Kiev cost me about $150, and that was because I bought it the day before I was planning to leave so I paid a higher price.

Yes that's the prices I have found.  I should of mentioned that their are dirsect flights from Odessa and Donesk.  These are flown during the summer season the last time I checked. ou can however than take a different mode to Kharkov, still not all that easy to do,and again the train may just be the way to do it. Slightly slower in total time, but you''ll get there.
