To bring or not to bring, that is the question!
« on: July 15, 2007, 03:56:49 AM »
Hi everybody!
Things are going very well with I. and we'll finally meet in 2 weeks from now. We will be sharing an apartment, with separate bedrooms. At the moment we're just friends, but of course we both hope that something deeper will be sparked upon meeting. Whatever happens, I like to be prepared, which takes me to the question... if we end up sleeping together we'll need some protection (unprotected sex gets a big NYET in my book).
I'd bring a packet of condoms from my country and keep it in the suitcase for "emergency use" only, but I'm worried about this... may happen she sees I brought them all the way from Italy, and think that having sex with her was my sole purpose for visiting? Somehow I doubt that she may have some female condoms, and I don't feel very confident about buying them in Ukraine (trouble with language and all that).
Ok, maybe I'm just paranoid, but there's no harm in asking... what did you guys do on your first meeting? Is there really a chance that coming prepared for the worst (well... for the best, actually ^_^) may ruin everything?

P.S. - Man, I *SO* hope she's not reading this board... ^_^

Just take a starter supply with you and dump the outer packaging.  IIRC (been a while) inner packaging is often quite neutral.

You can always 'read' the situation when you are there and if the timing is right can make a quick stop at the local pharmacy for a good western brand.

Maybe go for neutral the first go around instead of those with funny faces on them and such.

Just be yourself. I'm pretty sure she is not expecting a virgin.

I took condoms with me and I think it's not only REASONABLE to do so...  it's RESPONSIBLE to do so.

Everyone has different experiences in these situations but if YOU feel you should take them... then take them.

BTW... don't expect a FSUW to insist on them or anything...  it probably won't happen.

Tororo...  I'm looking forward to readng your TR and wish you the best of luck on your trip...

If you like her and she likes you, you will become more than friends, and you will need some protection.  Your choice - hide some somewhere or run around at midnight trying to buy some.

I think if you brought two dozen with you, she may question your intentions.  If you did not bring any, she would question your ability to plan.  RW/UW expect the man to take the lead.

It is good that you protect yourself.  Do not be surprised if a RW/UW does not insist on the same.

Rule number one when travelling.  Always take a weather proof jacket or three. :P :P  I can't see her being offended by that.  In fact I would suggest the opposite.

I would love to see the charade you would use in a Ukrainian pharmacy when attempting to buy condoms.  Maybe Kuna has some tips as he has some experience with shopping without Russian language skills.   :D

Can't speak for Ukrainian condoms, but the ones I bought in Russia were of very inferior quality and also very small, (I must have bought the junior size by mistake), and painful to try on.  I'd recommend you bring a brand name you are comfortable with from home and simply store them in the night stand against future need.  I doubt any girl is going to question where they came from in the heat of the moment, and besides,,, it'll probably be too dark for her to read the package anyway.

Kunochka you are super I like it how you told

I think it is normal to bring condoms in case , but do not expect she will have anything sexual with you at once, russian women  are very decent

So long as they don't come out of the same factory as the Firestone SUV tyres of a few years back.

There is an old joke I heard YEARS ago - LONG before I even thought for a second I would ever be near russia - let alone marrying a woman from there.

Any way - the joke said something to the affect of:

Q.  What does trojan do with all the small condoms that don't meat US size standards?
A.  Ship them to Russia and mark them "Large."

Oh - and totoro - Take them of course.  If she ask "Did you assume we would have sex?"  Then you say YES, that's why I brought the condoms!

No need to get all wussy about this.  Oh...  and make sure if you do get a chance to use them - use them well so that she remembers you.  ;)  Worked for me.

Back to having fun in life!
