Engaged and waiting
« on: July 20, 2007, 07:25:06 AM »
Hello boys and girls, I am Blues Fairy, originally from N-sk, educated in the US, living in Noscow (5 years already), now engaged to a sophisticated gentleman from the US and waiting for my visa to join him.  To distract myself from obsessing over the pace of the US immigration service, and to get the veterans' perspective, I'll read and occasionally post here if you don't mind.

Welcome Blues Fairy!

Always good to have another woman's perspective here. I hope you will share your thoughts from time to time along with your reading.

Good luck with the visa process!

N-sk is colloquial for Novosibirsk. :)  That's in Siberia, just in case.

You already added some badly needed female perspective on another thread.

I hope you enjoy it here, and become frequent.

I was there in grad school in DC, about 10 years ago.  The school was very rigid and I had to work to earn a living (computers, waitressing etc).  It was hard as hell, but fun at the same time.  I was young and silly and got myself into lots of trouble.  ;D  I had three (consecutive) AM boyfriends - one black (3 weeks), one white (1.5 years) and one Hispanic (3 days. :)).  Then after three years of living in the U.S. I said to myself; enough is enough.  Russia was far too interesting for me then to permanently settle abroad.  So I came back home and started a career, and took up singing again.  That's the story.

Blues Fairy,

Welcome. Now please do not take what I am about to say negatively because it is baised on what you have written so far.

From the style, content and tone of your postings to date you sound like a lady who has become angry at the choices left to her in Russia today, some one who is in her mid to late 30's at best (maybe early 40's) and is using what time she has left as an attractive woman to get out (of Russia) while she can before she is totally left alone as an old maid.

Maybe I am wrong it would not be the first time but I hear a great deal of anger and maybe something else.

TigerPaws, you obviously mistake me for someone else.  You are wrong in your guesses about my age, my feelings about Russia, and my motivation to marry my US fiance.  Please re-read my posts.

Blues Fairy,

Oh! I have read what you have said and done the math, if you were in grad school here in the U.S. 10 years ago that would make you at least 35 or more today, not including taking up a career before looking for an American man. So my original assessment of you age and possible motivations would be plausible.

I started grad school right after finishing university in Russia, at 21.  I am now 32 and believe me, I am very popular here in my country.  Please kindly re-read my posts referenced above and quote the phrases which, in your opinion, indicate anger and improper motivations.

Hum.... 21 and finished grad school, that must have cost a fortune in bribes to the professors.

Additionally the math still dose not work out, even if you were 21 when you arrived in the U.S. that would make you 31 at best when you returned and living in Moscow for 5 years would make you 36 at best.

Sounds like a Troll to me.

TigerPaws, you should have your reading license taken away.  :D

FYI, most graduate schools in the US take 2-3 years to finish, unless you're doing a PhD (which still rarely takes 10 years). I only did my MA.

Why because the math dose not work? Maybe you are talking about the fast track Russian grad school, because here in America you need to have at a minimum 4 years at a university before entering a graduate degree program. So either you graduated from high school at 15 or 16 or the math simply dose not work out to be 21 and be in grad school.

Sound very strange even for the Russian education system.

Yes I am very aware of how long it takes as I have a number of degrees up to a PhD.

Your math still looks wrong. I still smell a Troll.

Ok I could be wrong I have been before and I will be again, all I am saying is that something looks strange. I am not trying to pick a fight here only voicing one opinion among many

Why because the math dose not work?

Than you should have your math license taken away as well.   ;D ;D ;D

Here's some easy math for you.  In Russia, kids enter school at 6-7 and graduate at 16-17.  Bright and diligent ones enter college the same year.  Plus 4 years of college = 21.   In fact I reached my legal drinking age in the first week of my fall semester at the graduate school. :)

So 21 + 2 and +1 year of working = 24.  Back to Russia, + 8 years of successful career.  32 years and still gorgeous.

Happy now?

You're welcome and congratulations.  I don't begrudge this information and I don't see why you had to insult me by doubting my veracity in order to obtain it.  You could simply ask.

BTW you still have to explain where in my posts you have noticed anger and insincere motivation.

Blues Fairy,

Biased on what you wrote, the tone in which you wrote, the overall quality of your writing and the time line you presented things sounded a bit implausible and if there is one thing this forum has taught may of us is that people are not always as they seem.

For the time being I will accept what you are saying and let it go at that.

I still can't imagine how my writing could project a disillusioned 40-ish woman eager to get out of her country!  :D  Was it my reference to the Greek regatta that you took as proof of my anger towards Russia?

Oh the hell with it.  This conversation is becoming boring.
