Travel books

There's no "travel" forum, (so if this is in the wrong place, I apologize), but I guess the one dealing with immigration and visas is the closest thing to it, so here goes:  I've been looking at travel books for Moscow like those published by LonelyPlanet, Frommer's, Eyewitness Travel Guides (by DK Pub.), Insight, Time Out, Fodor's, Bradt, etc...

Is the Lonely Planet book by Mara Vorhees (linked to Amazon in the Reading Resources section of this site) really the best of the Moscow guides or has anyone found another one to be more helpful (and why)?  What about the best for St. Petersburg, Tver, and Ukraine, such as Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Krivoy Rog, and Zaporozhye?  It's hard to tell which one would be the most helpful before you ever set foot in the city, so It'd be great to hear from some who have been to these cities and perhaps used some of these travel books.  Thanks!

In the reviews Ive read regarding Ukraine travel books, the Bradt Travel Guide is better than the Lonely Planet guide.

Plus, the Bradt book is more up to date; newer edition.

Hope this helps

Funny you mentioned that! I finished reading Meredith Dalton's "Culture Shock - Ukraine" over a month ago. It is a very good book to read for a newbie. A library is a good place to start if one wish to read up on travel and language books on Ukraine and Russia.  Most libraries have audio cassettes with books on how to speak and read Russian or Ukrainian.
