Hello
« on: August 21, 2007, 03:03:29 PM »
Hi Everyone

I want to say hello to everyone here, i have been lurking for a few eeks now and, I must say that of all the forums I have viewed on the topic of East/West relationships this one seems to be the most, balanced and mature i have come across so far... At his point i am simply communicating with a lady from the FSU and have been for some time... not really sure what either of us wants to be honest, but at this point we both enjoy the communication..

Welcome, I hope you can find all the information you need.
Regarding the communication, if you are at a time in your life where you might want to be serious about a (new) partner, do not wait too long investigating.
And one thing should be clear, you are the first to make the trip if there will be any kind of meeting.  ;)
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Ironically, I find that refreshingly honest.

Hi Guys

thanks for your replies

Shadow:
Yeah i know, if i want to go further, i have to take that step, and i think i will in the not too distant future. this is something that we have both mentioned at times, we just haven't quite gotten to that point yet, she seems to be very slow to open up... not quite sure how to interpret that... but i am trying to view that from a positive perspective... better that than "I love you" after 4 letters ;)

Nat:
Yeah that's my Kitty...Oscar. he likes to stick his tongue out at ya  :P Not the "sharpest tool in the shed"... ;D

Gator:
well i might as well be honest, anything else and i am simply setting my self up for trouble.. ;D

PS I'm Canadian, how do you get the flag to dispaly in your profile?

DizzyD: Welcome to the board.  I presume you have read quite a deal including the FAQ section?

Time lines for meetings have been mentioned and I would always advocate sooner rather than later.  Don't fall into my trap of messing about for months and years, but by the same token, nothing wrong with being cautious. I can't see anything wrong with her being a little guarded and slower to open up.  Personally I see that as a good thing.

The trick is to get yourself clued in before you get on a plane.  You can't know everything, in fact you can't know much before you set foot in Russia or the east.  You will be in for some eyeopeners either way, but what you can do is be clued in enough to avoid doing some of the stupid clueless things that the likes of me did early on.

Be yourself and move at your pace.  All the best.

thanks Rvrwind... yes another canucklehead.. ;D sometimes i think i must be a canucklehead to be doing this at all... but i haven't let that stop me so far.. :selfharm: the funny thing is i didn't go looking for a lady in the FSU, this all got started quite by chance...

I/O; yes i have done "a lot" of reading over the last year and half, and alot of investigating, but your right time lines are important,I do recognize that.

this lady and i have not been in constant communication, it has been on and off at times.. sometimes her doing and sometimes mine.. she does appear to be quite guarded, but she informed me that she had a very negative experiance in the past in this, and i think that may be effecting her ability to be open..

one of the things that made me somewhat nervous was our age difference 14+ years. which initially i thought was significant,
but after reading the looong posts relating to this, i feel somewhat better about it... neither of us are all that young, she is 35+ i "just" turned 50, she has a son who is 15 and i have 2 daughters 12 & 16..

DizzyD: Started quite by chance? Many do. I guess something I think you should consider now is this, latterly I became keen on concentrating on one person, but I don't think that is so smart first time out in Russia or other FSU areas.  Certainly it can work, I know of at least two guys who have been to Russia once, met one lady only and are happily married for several years, but IMO that is highly risky.

I suggest you take a look at some of KenC's history.  He did go to Russia first time concentrating on one lady, but he also made the effort to meet others so he at least had a reference point. Whether he was smart or lucky is unimportant, he has now been married to that one lady for 8 + years. I probably couldn't do what he did, but I do think it was a well calculated method with as near to zero risk as is possible.

I guess, in essence, I am saying, don't get too hung up on one lady before you have had your feet on the ground over there. I've long thought the first trip should be more a reconnaissance mission than anything else.

The age gap, yeah let's not go there. ;D

I'd buy a refer truck if I could get the product. Biggest problem is the close to 2000 miles between me and the closest store... I do always bring back more than my limit when I go but it's been over 3 years since my last visit so I am pretty deep into withdrawal now... :D

Hi RVR...

I was going to say yea we have bears... as a matter of fact they are a fairly regular site in NS... especially this year... Black ones not grizzlies,  had them on my own property a couple of times this summer, but most people here think it's nice that we can co-exist rather than feeling a need to go out and blow holes in them ;)...

i think your right about Goodman.... as i have already said, something just doesn't "smell" right, has anyone other than me noticed the lingustic/grammatical inconsistencies, between his original subject line, the body of his original post and his follow up posts... ::)  it would appear to me he is "trying" to sound like someone who does not speak english fluently.... in reality Goodman i think you do, and your just trying to stir up shite , rather a waste of time, but hey if thats what "turns your crank"  ::) sorry if i have insulted you but I have to call them as i see them..

On a more serious note RVR i caught you post about getting alot of PM's from guys looking for your assistance.. and i can appreciate that you probably get a lot of them.. it most likey happens because you have knowledge and connections on both sides of the fence

I was going to PM you myself about some questions i have  there are some things that don't seem to fit a logical pattern.. but for right now i don't have all the info to even ask you a specific question so i won't...  ;D

PS: if i do, financial compensation would be part of the equation
