My wife is from Omsk and I've been there a couple of times. I/O's fiance is from Omsk and he's been there a few times as well, Daveman is also pretty familiar with Omsk.

What kind of information are you looking for?

Ken

Evia is form Omsk as well...  I'm trying to encourage her to sign up her and post a bit.

Ken, PM me if your wife might like mine's e-mail...

If you are taking several weeks off, I'd suggest the train from Moscow.  Its two days of absolute relaxation.  Your choices of activity are "sleep", "read", "stare out window", "talk with you companions".  Of course, its sweet if your "companion" is your beloved (in which case other opportunities might arise).  We did this on our recent summer trip there and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

ATMs work fine, just find a busy one like at the Omsk Bank (handy if you have problems), or associated with some of the larger shopping stores.

Most everything is within walking distance if you have the time and energy.  Note for locals, thats means willing to walk for hours.

I have never been there but I understand now is the perfect time to visit as opposed to the winter when I usually have the time to travel.

IMO probably the pick of all the Siberian cities, economically, commercially and facilities wise. Why?  :noidea: other than the fact the Mayor is veeeeeeeeeeeery well connected with the powers that be in Moscow. Go figure. Much more modern than most Siberian cities. 1.2 million people. Usually 2 flights a day to and from Moscow. Temperatures can range from -35c to +35c depending on time of the year. Mid June to Mid October are the most pleasant time to be there. BTW, a goodly percentage of the women are "None too shabby" either. ;D Plenty of well skilled scam groups operating out of there, so keep your eyes peeled in the letter writing phase.

Whadelsed'yawanna know?

Thanks for the info thus far.  Scam operators huh?  Is that like for individual personal ads that you might find on a personals website or something?  Are there any agencies in Omsk and are they legit?

Where did you stay while in Omsk?  A hotel?  Are the "none too shabby" women open to foreign men?

Thanks,

Jon

Catz can answer your questions regarding hotels and agencies as I know nothing about them in Omsk.  I don't stay in hotels when there and haven't used an agency.

Frankly the general nature of your questions suggests to me that you need to have a very good read of the FAQ section here on RWD.  I suspect that will give you a lot of information you haven't even considered at this point.

After you have read the FAQ section, come back with specific questions. :cluebat:

I/O is correct, read, read and read some more. The guys that have experience in Omsk are great resources. I would advise getting an apartment instead of a hotel. If you are worried about scams educate yourself about them. If you are worried about an agency then educate yourself about the agency. Check here, google the site but put scam in the header. An educated man is nearly impossible to be scammed. I have spent 9 days, 6 hours and 41 minutes on this site, yet I have posted very little compared to that time and I advise you to do your homework. Most of that time was reading and learning.

Read, read and read some more. It will benefit you quite a bit.

Good luck,

Udachi

I only used a hotel one time. It was the Tourist and as it is right by the river it had a decent view. They have pretty good breakfasts that are included in the room price. I think I paid about $35 a night for a single. Nothing special but I only needed a place to sleep so it worked out fine for me. The Mayak is right next to that and is supposed to be decent as well. There is also the Molodouzshnaya which is near where my wife's flat is. It has a nice pool hall but I don't know about it other than it is supposed to be decent as well. Other than that I have always stayed with the family.

We have one agency owner from Omsk as a member here. Enigma Julie (I believe) is her name. Never met her but have had a few PM's with her and she seems decent enough, not that this really means anything. Queen of Hearts agency was the one that Elena was listed with and I can verify that they do have genuine women there but the owner Genia will try to squeeze you for a lot more than she is entitled to.

Personally I really like it there and have enjoyed myself a great deal each time I've been there.

If you want I can look up the travel agent that I used to book my hotel and airport pickup. Don't know if they have flats or not. Nice folks and I used on of their interpreters to take me around to the museums on day which was very interesting.

Ken

P. S. Whatever hotel you stay at be prepared for the late night "Girl for sex" phone call. Got to be a running joke if I could guess what time they would call each night. Nyet Spassiba is all you need to say unless you want to live on the edge. You never know where that has been.  :)
