 KenC.

That house in Beaver falls would probably cost $250,000. That shows you Real estate is all about location.
No way it goes for $250K  I would be surprised if it broke $100K.  My son sells new homes in Pheonix about 1500 sq' for $150K.

MSpanky,  I am still doing some work on that house.   I have just not had much free time.  I think I have been able to work on it a half day all year between being busy with other things and being gone for the big part of the summer with VWRW.

I hope to wrap it up this fall and am 99% sure I have it sold when it is ready.  Actually to the ex wife of a kid that grew up in that house.  (Kid is probably late 50's now but last time I saw him he was 7 or so.)  I have to do a new roof on the main part of the house and a little more on the bathroom.

It looks like real estate prices in Texas are actually a bit better than here which surprises me.   VWRW and I have talked about a new house.   The one I live in now is fairly comfortable and I can walk to work if I want but I am getting real tired of working on houses.   I would like a new one where I have to do little but mow the grass.   VWRW would sort of like to keep the one I am in now and it is something we will talk about next year.  Actually Eben Estates, where that listing is is one of the areas I am considering.  That is in the future though.

Neo, I am not sure what you do for a living but I hope it is something that gives you an outlet for your creativity.

House prices have moved up a lot here over the past few years.   I would peg that one at between $ 300,000 and $ 350,000 here, now.

TG,

i went to Art School and studies design, print and Photography, I worked as a pro photographer (the model connection) and web designer for a while before setting up a media company in the .com boom. i sold out of that and went into consultancy before my health went bad.

i'm actually on a sabbatical right now and have been house bound for several months while i recover from my treatment hence a bit of pent up creative frustration and no doubt inevitble loneliness of not being able to be out and about with friends.

I have been working on a new business venture im getting off the ground which will be good for my creative side, and im penning my memoirs which should see me stop pounding hte boards as much but generally i'm not sure where i go next in life.

Hope you don't mind my little teasting, you should know i actually respect you and your experience and steadfast determination in your quest against all critics, you have acquitted yourself remarkbly better than most in the onslaught from all sides and still fought all without resorting to personal or base remarks. for that you command respect. I only tease people i like so i hope you can take it as a compliment.

For my own part, i support your rights as a individual to take whatever course you feel best suits you to whatever happiness you pursue, i wish you and wvrw success and while we may have differences of opinions i absoloutly respect your rights as individuals to live your lives as you wish.

Prejudice is the enemy of liberty, and often comes disguised as opinion but is easily defeated with perseverence and steadfast determination to upholds ones rights.

We are talking about Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania? I checked out house prices. This house that is bigger than the one in Turbo's pictures goes for $12,000. We have had a recent influx of Floridians buying up, for cash, our better water front houses, thus driving the prices up.  That house I showed above two or three years ago would have stalled at 180K, now it goes without a whimper for $225K.

Beaver Falls is still a good buy. This is a link to a Real Estate listing. You can still buy a house for $34,000 there, Thst's incredible.

We sold our 35 year old house (1700 sq ft) for 135K in May after moving
into this house we ordered further out. Yeah, Russian ladies love new
things, cars, houses and so on. Our new home priced at 203K, 2230 sq ft
on a pie shaped cul de sac lot. I love the layout inside, 9 ft ceilings and
a loft office for me.

Yeah, location rules the market. 'Course prices rise when the influx is beating
a path to your door....

I agree with Vaughn, location can be very important.   Take that $ 12,000 house, move it 6 miles to the town of Beaver and it would go for $ 100,000.   Drift on down the road to the Town of Sewickly and the Real Estate Prices are the highest in PA with a median sale price of over a million.

Go out to the fringes of Beaver Falls and a nice new house, lets say 2500 square feet used to go for $ 225,000 a few years ago now they go for $ 300,000-350,000.

You can still buy a house here in a decent area for $ 25,000 -  45,000.  If the sale goes through on the small house I had offered to allow Elena to live in rent free I will get $ 40,000 for it.  I probably could have asked $ 50,000 going through a broker but probably would not have ended up with a lot more.

Neo,  seems like quite an interesting background.  I am sure the best lies ahead.   No, I have not taken offense and thanks for the compliments.   I am glad to know that you only tease people you like and that I am in that category.  I am not prejudiced and will tease anyone.  Of course I try my best to like everyone anyway.   I have been impressed with your sense of humor and you seem like you have a very level head on your shoulders.   I have teased you as well at times but I also meant it in a good sense.

T/G spin aside, this house still looks like, and sounds, like a slum to me...  No wonder Ela didn't want to live there.

Vaughn,

I have the worst possible mental picture about that.  Frankly, I wouldn't live in such a house, nor would I live in such a town,,, it's just not my lifestyle.  I've never been that down and out.

I guess T/G thinks that's normal...

Actually I lived in that house myself from the time I was born until I was 2.

On the other hand I would not particularly choose to live there myself either but the lady I believe I have it sold to considers it her dream house.   We are all different.  I did not hold a gun to Ela's head.  I offered, described it and she accepted.

The town it is in and the neighborhood are quite nice.

I am having an increasingly difficult time seeing the relevance of recent posts in this thread to the theme of the board, and less to the original topic.

Hub,  VWRW has seen a video walk through of my house.  It was in great detail and she should be fully aware of what is here.   For that mater Son of Clyde has stayed in my house and I am sure if he reads this can give you his impressions.   I do remember him saying that I was a lot neater than he is.  I do have a bathroom and not an outhouse.
Actually, Ray's house has a Gothic look. I believe it is over one hundred years old and is not in bad condition. I found it to be neat and clean. I brushed my teeth in the working bathroom and even used the working commode. The house has character and I rather liked it. Ray showed me the small house in question and it was in disarray but I could see he was working on it. I didn't look in the bathroom but I could see the place was furnished and although not the Ritz it was OK for a temporary stay if the bathroom was working. I think he was in the process of doing drywall or something that is messy but looks great after you clean up the mess. And yes I did say Ray is neater than me. I am learning to be neat and put things in their proper place. I have not read the last three pages, I stopped with Ray's house and will read more later.

These are telling comments,,, why would you expect a RW to live there,,, happily,,, even for free,,, for some months.  You have to be outta your mind.

I'm beginning to think this is a cultural problem.   In that T/G has no/zero, sophistication regards AM/RW living arrangements,,, maybe he thought he'd get some easy pussie, as neo suggests.   I guess we all know, T/G's a pig.  So be it.

I will probably be in trouble for this post but my observation of most RW is that they cannot tolerate mess. A house must be in perfect condition or they will complain about it. It can be difficult for us lifelong bachelors to adapt to the neat way of life. It is a good thing  RW are fastidious about neatness. You have to take Elena's post with a grain of salt (or is it a grain of sand).

No John - we do not ALL know T/G's a pig. If that is the conclusion you draw from what is posted, I submit you are grasping for threads.

Speaking of threads - this one is done.
