two years
« on: August 25, 2007, 10:28:56 AM »
Tomorrow is our two year anniversary (Aug 26).

In spite of what some of you may think we are doing quite well.

It has been a difficult road for both of us and the future is looking very bright.

Thank you all who have supported us through this journey.

Larry,

Congratulations.

So it has not been easy.  You can not complain that you were bored.

So what was more difficult:

A UW adjusting to America?
A confirmed bachelor adjusting to being married?
The personality differences between the two of you?

Way to go SoC. I remember someone wrote on this forum that the second year is the hardest.

I just got through my first year and thought "Oh no, I hope they are wrong".  Turns out they were not wrong after all.  :(  I think that the third year is generally less turbulent, from what I have understood.

You should be proud of your accomplishment and both of us wish you the best!

Wow Soc. Time flys by fast. I remember some people betting your marriage wouldn't last very long. So far so good and I do wish you and your wife the best.

Thank you all.

Gator, it was a tough adjustment for both of us.
Not easy to uproot from another country to a place like the US.

She has found it is not as easy as she had anticipated.

I am constantly becoming aware of bad habits I did not recognize as a single guy.

I love "I" with all my heart and I do not say that enough on the forum.

KenC I am hoping we can forget our differences from the past and start fresh. I appreciate your congrats.

Turbo, catz and Gator, thanks for being there when I have needed to vent.

Neo, Kuna, BillyB and Voyager, thanks for your support and for being part of a great group of guys.

Congratulations Larry and "I". The first year is getting to know each other. The second year.......you know maybe too much........with lots of "negotiations" (my wife actually believed the "woman" in America has control over the TV remote.......silly her). The third year........fine-tuning. Year four.....acceptance.....lots of hugs.....and we put on the gloves at the gym......once-a-month.......for maintainence purposes. Year five......having fun doing alot of interesting things......just bought some bodyboards (surfing).....and off to the beach at Sleeping Bear Dunes.

Adjustments and bumps......are just the norm I think. Probably even more so.....in international relationships.....so not too many are alone here.

Best wishes.....and luck.

Congrats Larry & "I"!!
I can say that today but not yesterday. As Neo correctly noted it is bad luck in Russia to offer Congradulations before the date arrives. This applies to all celebatory events.
Cheers & enjoy the day!! ;D

Ok its the day so BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Well all know year 2 is when the honeymoon glow starts to wear off and things can get tough,so to get through it and still be strong deserves the utmost respect and pride.

You never get to rest on your laurels though do you? i remember having a disagreement over something with my wife and she was complaining about something and i said "but we had a lovely wedding and honeymoon" and she said "that was last month. this is today!" :)

it never ends. thats what makes every day with a russian woman so exciting :)

Terrible russian marriage joke told me by my father in law.

Man comes home to find another man in the hall with his wifes suitcase packed. the husband asks him

"are you here for my wife or her mother?"
"your wife" the man replied rather sheepishly"
The man pats him on the back as he walks away and says
"oh thats ok then. her mother is a better cook".

So BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your special day. i wish you many happy anniversaries, health and love for the years ahead!

Congratulations to both of you on "sticking it out" through all the trials and tribulations adjusting to each other brings! The tough part is behind you now, and it only gets better with time. May you have many happy anniversaries to come.

Larry, thinking back on our several phonecalls, especially the one where we simply handed
the phones to our wives so they could acquaint (whether they wanted to or not, LOL),
and having just missed one another in the mountains last June by mere hours.....

We wanna wish you both many more years together, and much happiness throughout.

Clyde,

Way to go man! Congratulations to you and your wife! You have had to encounter some adversity but you worked through it. I think there's very few marriages where there's no adversity. When my wife and I were remodeling our master bedroom/bath, I would kiss her before we began and say, let me have a kiss now because we are going to debate/argue soon. We usually did, but now we have a beautiful bedroom/bath and we did all the work ourselves. And when we disagreed, it wasn't too difficult to work through it. I just admitted I was wrong and we moved on.

I wish you many more good times in the future.

Mark

That's the mark of true wisdom if you are married to a Russian woman.  Knowing full well that if anything goes wrong, it's your fault.
