Hard to say which is better:  to move to a big city and be ignored because you are not a novelty...

Hmmm... FSU girls will be a novelty, no matter where they go, in my experience.  Marina and I stayed in Manhattan 3 weeks last summer, in mid-town.  Marina's kept getting noticed, even in NYC--with girls saying "I like your boots" to "that's a great dress; where did you get it."  Marina was in shock, and simply ignored the comments and questions.

I had told her that people would not be friendly in NYC; I was wrong.

Simoni,

That evening we spent in Corpus Christi, our ladies behaved more like sisters, not like they were in competition, I don't buy into the notion that birds of a feather cannot flock together.  BTW, my wife was very comfortable with the age gap between her, me, you, and Marina.  It was not an issue for us.  Just thought I'd get that out there.

However, we need to get back to the OP, city girls, vs country girls.  I think it's much easier for a city girl who is fed up with Moscow, to adjust to a calmer life in a smaller city than it would be for a village girl to accept city life.  Just my take on this.

JB,
Yes, that was a nice evening in Corpus Christi; we'll have to do it again sometime.  And yes, you are correct, the comfort level of the age span between the four of us was fine.  No difference, really.

In terms of the topic at hand, all we can really say is our own experience or informed opinion.

We have friendship I can mention--an RW/AM couple....she came from a village in Russia to the US to a city of 500,000 in a metro area of 4 1/2 million, and she loves it.  She drives everywhere and has a job as an elementary school teacher.

Marina, in contrast, is a big city girl--from a place in Ukraine of 1 1/2 million, has lived in the city center all her life.  She does like it here...we are downtown, on the water, (population is 225,000; metro area of 2 1/2 million people).

But Marina still misses the hustle and bustle of fsu downtown life.  American cities tend to be business centers, with the people coming in for work and going home at night.  So unless you live in Manhattan or a similar city, it's not gong to be "like" home in the fsu.

However, this is her second year here, and I still think she will adjust and eventually prefer life in the US.  Frankly, I'm tired of the comparisons  ;D

So, in short, I suppose a village girl can like the big city and a big city girl can enjoy a small town.  But some adjustments may have to be made.  Love has to be the bridge that connects.

Marry carefully...

Well I think you should tell us what that actual age difference is so the loyal people on RWD can decide if you have our approval for a friendship.

Somehow, I think the fact that JB and I both spent our formative years in Texas and that we both have fsu women is a more significant factor than our ages  :D

The beer was a factor, too

That explains things.  You spend your formulative years with something in common and now spend your reform years with something in common.  Besides we all know age difference is not important when people have something in common.  Perhaps that is the secret to success in large age gap relationships.   Both drink enough beer and neither will notice the age difference.

The Texas mentality versus the FSU mentality....that has to make for quite the interesting combination.

As you may or may not know I live in the country with nothing really around me but me, myself and I. The closest town is 2000 people where my kids go to school 10 miles away. To get a little bigger would be 30 miles away with 13,000 people. Or there is Sioux Falls South Dakota 120,000 75 miles away. And then there is the twin cities (Minneapolis) 4 hours give or take.

Would this be a major problem for a RW?

TJK,

Yes, it would be a problem - for 99.8% of FSUW. But there is always that
.2% that reside in the small towns and agricultural villages. The trick
is how to find them: your best bet is a frank and honest newspaper ad specifically
stating that you are a farmer/rancher in a sparsely populated part of the northern
U.S., etc.............that way, the FSUW who do respond will probably have no problem
with where you live..........and there is always that .000001% chance that a city
lady may not have a problem with it..........

Good luck.

Yes, but keep in mind that a Russian village with 2,000 people is VERY, VERY, VERY different from an American village with this many people. I know as I have spent months in rural regions of Russia. A RW will understand life on the farm from a Russian perspective. You have to provide an honest account of life on a farm or ranch and explain that a farm or ranch is very different in North America than it is in Russia.
