What current processing time for K-1 VISA (Russia to USA)
« on: September 12, 2007, 01:17:00 PM »
I applied for my K-1 on May 28th and am eagerly awaiting some response. Please give me any ideas you have on how much longer until I receive information or for her VISA to be approved. She lives in Yaroslavl, RU.

Thank you...

Have you received a Notice of Action 1 or 2?

Did you file the petition yourself or through a lawyer?

Suggest going to http://www.visajourney.com and comparing your situation to others.  A lot depends on what processing center you used, current delays, etc.  For me, it took about 8 months to get her here.

Yes, I applied though a lawyer (I live in the state of Alabama). I am yet to receive any response yet. Thank you for the response.

Good lord, you ought to get on the phone today and grill your lawyer about where you are in the process. You should have received at least one NOA, an acknowledgement that they have received your petition and opened a case file.

Or,,, you could go to the horses mouth for you case status:

http://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/ptimes.jsp

Just navigate through to the case number and you'll have your approximate interview date.

from NOA1 to NOA2, 116 days and climbing.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=times

You can do the arithmetic.  It seems you should be hearing soon.  There are guidelines on when you can call to discuss a possible problem.

However, JB's source says "six months".   Ouch!  Oh well, you can learn to be patient becuase I understand patience is key after she eventually arrives.

I don't think timelines mean a whole lot now since they are in the process of changing from 4 processing centers to 2.   Vermont was always the fastest with Groov setting the record as far as the ones I have heard of and making it through the process in 3 1/2 months total.   Vermont is going to slow way down and the rest of the country should speed up a little.   Typically 8-10 months was common for anyone not using VT.   Once your file goes to NVC it should clear there in anywhere from a few days to 2 weeks.   The Embassy should schedule the interview 8-10 weeks after they receive the file.  My guess is you have about a month to wait yet for NOA-2

Lawyers can really slow the process down so it is possible that could be your problem as well.   You could have an RFE sitting on his desk gathering dust.

Ohhh Puullleeeeze- That has got to be one of the most asinine statements I have heard in recent memory. Most of the RFEs come from you pro per types. . .
clogging an antiquated system even further.

William3rd,

Wait a moment.  I tend to lean towards the person with the most experience.  I am not sure who has filed more K-1s over the past 10 years, you or Turbo?   :D

Ignore the 6 month timeline.  That is their goal time and as long as they are processing applications in under that time then it will stay the same.  Even if their processing time were averaging one week, it would still say 6 months on the website.  Only if they are exceeding their 6 month goal time will the number change on their website.  With my application, which went through CA, it took three months, even with one RFE.  My guess is that you will hear something within the next couple of weeks.  The NVC was where mine got held up, taking 8 months from their receipt until the interview date, but it was a CR-1 so I'm thinking that yours should get to the NVC a lot quicker.

I will even laugh at that one Gator, that was good.

William If you need any advice on K-1's let me know.

William, just because I have heard hundreds if not thousands of horror stories about using a lawyer and have never heard a single good comment does not mean that most don't do a good job.   I am sure the unhappy ones tell everyone they can and the happy ones have nothing to talk about.

Seems there is not one soul around that has been happy about K processing, with lawyer or not so it sorta makes sense.

I used a lawyer here because I was incredibly busy with other business and handed him my proverbial shoebox of documents.

He got our Euro K3 approved in around 3 weeks but I was still pi$$ed cause he said should take two.  Go figure.. In practically all cases the person you strangle is the first one with a neck you can wrap your fingers around... and I bet that it ain't gonna be someone from BSIS or whatever they call it..

Interesting that most everyone in America says something derogatory about lawyers.  Yet if they feel wronged or get into trouble, who do they call?

I'm sure you've heard the old saying:  If there is only one lawyer in town he will go broke.  If you add a second lawyer they will both get rich.

Yes, and if you are not a crook the reason they get into trouble is because some scumbag lawyer decided you were a lamb ready for a shearing.

I really don't have much of a problem with a lawyer who practices family law or immigration law except there seems to be a lot of incompetent ones and very few good ones such as William.  I have very little use for the bloodsuckers who fill up the TV waves and yellow pages with ad's looking for ways to suck money from companies and people with a big chunk going into their pockets.

William III sure has earned back his stripes plus some for all the free legal opinions and advice he has shared with this board.  Thank you William.  Gator - good one!  Turbo - good last one!

Thanks Bruce.  The real facts of the matter are that Lawyers are not my favorite people sometimes.  I am probably a little prejudiced from being sued a few times without doing anything wrong.  Once because a landscaper in Mass had hired a guy for cash which meant he had no insurance and little money as well and as the manufacturer of the product I was the best source of cash.  The other time was for doing nothing wrong in an auto accident but the old fellow managed to tell a tale of surviving Pearl Harbor and winning some sympathy.  My insurance company had to pay $ 60,000 because of the Japanese attack.  I have also heard a lot of horror stories from guys doing a K-1 using a lawyer.   One of the first I heard was SOC.

With William, I can recall his first few posts here some of the guys were jumping over him thinking he was here to drum up business.  I believe I even made a post or two defending him.   I had seen only good helpful posts at that time and felt there was no reason to accuse him of things that there was no evidence of.  There are some really terrible immigration lawyers (as well as other kinds we don't run into here) and I am sure there are some good ones.   I have no idea of how well William runs his business or how devoted he is to providing good service for his customers but observing him and seeing how freely he tries to help with good solid legal advice with never a selfish motive I think he has been a tremendous asset to RWD.   I have to think that someone with the mentality of William has to be a pretty darn good immigration lawyer.

Someone could probably start a pretty active forum just about lawyer jokes.  There are so many you could never run out of material.   William has taken a few pot shots at me, some of which I am sure I deserved but still I can find it fun to send a few barbs back his way.  With me it is just having a little fun with him.  He is completely free to feel however he wants about me or my actions and I would much rather he talk about it when he feels inclined.  I will probably send a few zingers back but with me it is just fun because William has earned my respect and if someone was in need of an immigration lawyer I would feel comfortable sending them his way.
