I do agree with you on that jb.   I have heard that what they consider doctors are about as well trained as our nurses.    I just used that as an example.   I have a good friend who is seaching for a Doctor from the FSU to marry.   He kids around that she will be his retirement account.   I think he may have some surprises coming.

I believe teaching and the scientific fields are pretty transferable.

Turbo, Russia have very good doctor... but they are adapted at own material and drugs... second, the best one work for privat hospital or compagny where they are very good pay... and really, they earn very good... in Russia, you have doctor for the poor and doctor for the rich... and of course, the best one work for the rich...

But really, they are almost all good trained but the russian medecine is different that by us... they use more oriental method that by us... acupunture, homeophatie, osteophatie, medicinal plant...

Of course, since the collapse of USSR, several doctor who was working for state was no more pay and have begin other work... so doctor, who have almost never practice and update the knowledge, are not more update after some year...

The problem is not really at the level of education but other parameters.

Thanks for the additional information.   Since my gal spent two days in the hospital this week it is reassuring to know their doctors are not bad.

When I first traveled to Russia the advice in the travel guides said russian doctors and hospitals are terrible.  If you get sick, or think you are getting sick, get on the first plane and get out of there.  Avoid Russian health care at any cost.  I think they have improved since those days.   I still have heard that most doctors don't make a lot of money there but I am sure the really good ones do great.

If you need go to hospital in Russia, choose a private hospital... quality is around the same that here with enough modern material... but the price is too around the same that here...

In state hospital, the doctor are not realy bad but like you say, they are bad pay and miss some modern material or material is out of service...

It remember me a bad experience in russia, Lipetsk... i was with some pain to one teeth... so, i visit the local polyclinic... they was too short in product for make sleep the teeth... when they have begin work, it was so much pain that i have choose to remove the teeth... for the first time of my life, i have know what was remove a teeth with sleeping product and i don't wish it to somebody... but it have seem to methat it was not a problem for russian present... maybe they drink one bottle of vodka before...

Hospital and doctor are not a problem, just need to choose the good one...

This is a bit off-topic, but people read such silly meanings into simple words.  This way of using "my" is obviously a term of endearment and, indeed, I have heard it used by women as well as men.  So it's just silly to project any other meaning into it than that.

You must have not understood me,I was not referring to the Immigrants who marry a American and come here for a better life,I was talking about the summer exchange students.Sorry I should have made myself more clear.I didn't mean to put anyone down at all. I didn't mean to say that a woman who marries a American will end up cleaning a hotel room.
I do think it is not fair what our government charges them to get the visa to come here to work for the summer.

Joe,

What would you consider a fair amount?

I assure you the total cost of getting a new immigrant to the point of getting a green card will be measured in the thousands of dollars.  The idea of a non-immigrant getting a work visa for little or nothing would tend to piss me off.

If you, at some future date, get into the process of bringing a FSU woman into this country legally and start having to deal with the USBCIS, all the filing fees, delays, etc., there will be days you'll wonder if you can survive all this happy horsesheet.  I don't doubt you in the least, but you have to have some deep pockets along with a lot of patience.

The fact that those RU students are here at all is a minor miracle.

We have a dozen or so Russian men and women employed by the cafeteria at work. They are cashiers and food servers. I have heard one man has the equivalent of a phd but it does not transfer to the US.

Some are college age but most are 30's and 40's.

Could some businesses be sponsoring these people and the RU students?

The Dairy Queen here at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach has a crew of 99% Russian workers. There was a article in our newspaper, the Virginian Pilot about the exchange students, foreign workers. They said their work ethic is very good, much better than the American teenagers.
I think some business probably do sponser some of these workers. The newspaper said they pay like $3,000 for the exchange student, summer work program, that gets them the visa to come here but no promise of a job when they get here, that's the crazy part of it.I respect these young people very much for leaving their familiy, friends,to come here for a a few months and explore a new world like America.
