Travel with Greencard
« on: January 08, 2008, 10:31:26 AM »
My apologies---I KNOW this topic has been raised before, but darned if I can find it in a search.

N. is planning her first trip back to Odessa in March, and she wants definitive answers about what is required for her travel. Since she has her greencard, that is sufficient, right?

Will she be allowed to use the USC line when she returns to the US?

Any tips or tricks to get her through JFK as fast as possible would be appreciated. She will be returning to New York on Delta; the Delta rep said she will not even have to change terminals for her connecting flight back down here to ATL; so she is happy about that.

Our experience with this last Summer.

Yes. She took a certified copy of our marriage certificate with her as well just in case but did not need it.

Yes.

I'll have to let one of the New Yawkers answer this one as she went through O'Hare.

We have made that connection with Delta several times.  It's true that she will not have to change terminals, and that is a big plus.

However, it is still not easy.

First, she has to go through passport control, and that takes a while.

Second, she has to reclaim her bag.

Third, she has to stand in a line for 20 minutes to recheck her bag.

Fourth, she has to stand in another line where they recheck ID and boarding pass and scan her again.

Finally, she will have a 10 minute walk to the connecting gate.

It's a challenge.  It usually takes us about an hour 30 minutes to get to the connecting flight.  So please do allow adequate time for the connection.

Good luck  :D

Thanks guys!
Simoni---she was worried about the time also, so she had me book the LAST flight out of JFK. Flight 89 arrives from Kiev at 2:40; flight 135 to ATL leaves at 6:40----hopefully 4 hours will be enough time to deal with everything :(

To second Catzenmouse's comment above, always take a certifed copy of your marriage certificate.  Last summer at JFK, my wife would have been denied a seat on the Delta flight to Moscow if she did not have his document. The counter-person at Delta must have previously worked on the counter a either the Social Security Administration, the IRS or the Department of Homeland Security (meaning her customer service skills were somewhat lacking  ::)),

Hey Rob...remember me?
I helped you with your first trip to Odessa 3 or 4 years ago.  Looks like things worked out, eh?  Send me a PM sometime...would love to talk to you again.
